http://bdfpa.co.uk/rule/BDFPA%20HANDBOOK-2013%20AMD%201.pdf Page 85....

Formula = (0.488) - ((0.0009) x (bodyweight –155))

But the published coefficients are not derived from that formula...
Is the formula wrong or the published coefficients?

Or my basic maths?

Cheers

Just to confirm for a bodyweight of 100kg:

Formula = (0.488) - ((0.0009) x (bodyweight –155))
Formula = (0.488) - ((0.0009) x (100 –155))
Formula = (0.488) - ((0.0009) x (-55))
Formula = (0.488) - (-0.0495)
Formula = 0.488 + 0.0495
Formula = 0.5375

Published coefficient is 0.5540
10% off is pretty significant....

Your maths is right, it looks like the stated formula has not been used to calculate those coefficients. They refer to a revised formula from 1978, I guess they could be out of step.

Mostly where they publish the coefficients across federations they don't publish the formula - I couldn't find a real definition of the formula anywhere.

Agreed, that why I was writing an Android app to do it for me! But my expected output didn't match the rule book.... £££

You basic maths is correct, but where did you get a 10% difference from? Happy

The score takes me from around 400pts to 360(ish).

What did you actually weigh? If you were 100kg it takes you from 390 to 378 or so for a 705 total.

Was only a rough reference, used 4-5 examples and where the original formula has a much higher dampening effect on dimishing returns of strength/weight, the published ones are more normalised, which means it favors the fatties more.

*ps. I really couldn't care from a lifter perspective, it's purely for writing an app on android... I wrote it and it didn't tally up with the official figures... so I can't publish it until I find out if the formula is printed wrong, or if it's the printed coefficients (which could be a can of worms).

Apparently I can't use a calculator! Still, that's a significant difference
