Member 49, 2298 posts SQ 200, BP 132.5, DL 220552.5 kgs @ 123kgs UnEq | Ye guys this whole situation with iraq in my opinion has gotten waaay out of hand and it basically is as jonny describes 'a mess'. I think the occupation could last atleast anbother 5 years or so.

One of the guys in my dads attachment sadly died in iraq, so it's not like it's still safe over there. i'm sorry but i dont think you implying that people who live in iraq are being treated the same way as the soldiers there i.e being shot at every day, in either of them videos did you see an american or british soldier shoot anyone?

And the fact that US and UK soldiers get shot and bombed all the time makes it more "understandable" even if not acceptable that soldiers become trigger happy and most locals who get killed are civilians. That is of course not going to make the occupying forces very popular and the popularity/acceptance figures have been falling all the time.

First trouble is of course that no one counts civilian deaths in Iraq - there are too many to count, it is politically damaging for UK and US to count them, or simply they dont care. Whereas every occupying force casualty is documented down to last detail. So if there are couple thousand deaths in the occupying forces so far, and then the conservative estimated by iraqbodycount.org puts the civilian death toll by occupying forces to 61-71k, that would give the ratio of 1 to 30+ (i was just being very generous and conservative with the 1 to 20 estimation because i didnt want to be accused of overestimating). Lancet, the medical scientific journal, estimated the death toll to already 500-600k, and i think they estimated about 30% by occupying forces fire, so the worst case scenario would be 200k dead from occupying forces.

Scotbasher - forever Member 59, 2115 posts | A good friend of mine has just returned from Iraq for about the 4th time since it started and he reports it being far worse than it has ever been now. They were constantly being fired upon and in one situation while moving some very heavy equipment relatively slowly they came under RPG attack. Iraqis were popping up over walls to fire at them so they were having to machine gun anything that moved in passageways and over walls to prevent attacks. It must be remembered too that many of the westerners out there are not regular army. They are civilians (usually ex army) working as private contractors for some of the US security companies but often accompaning Govt troops.
