Hi Folks,

Been a while since I have been on here and am totally out of the powerlifting loop now. However, turns out my niece has started powerlifting training and it sounds like she has a boatload of potential.

She's based in the South West (Stroud) and I'd like a bit of advice on

1) Good gyms in the locality
2) Upcoming comps happy/welcoming to a complete newbie female

Any advice appreciated.

Hope you are all well

Happy

Had to have the cast changed yesterday so got to see the damage a bit better - no wonder it hurts if I try and do lat pull downs Eek

Anyway - training wise at home I'm limited to squats and lunges with a rucksack and abs work. But by heck my legs are getting massive from all the high rep stuff.........and I even have abdominals Tongue

It's driving me up the wall not being able to do much though - goodness knows when the wires will be out and the cast will be off - I have to go back again next friday to find out a bit more. Fingers crossed eh?

Well I have managed to do a fair bit of high rep leg work over the last week and am sore as hell so it's not the end of the world. Grin

Dear M jo! that does look a wee bit painful.
How long do you think it will take to heal? Sometimes life is s**t.
I see Adam appears to be doing a lot better in his training. Remember you are al;ways welcome to join in with me when I am there at MX.

All the best.
Dave

Cheers Dave - I'll definately be over to MX once i'm fixed up! Well, I may be over before if I'm about to use the leg press!

Speedy recovery, take it easy, few weeks wont set you back too much.

I was going to write something witty (?) about girls that don't have the use of both hands, but maybe another time. In the meantime, heal soon, get leg pressing with a vengeance, and come back fresh and enthusiatic.

Amazing what can be achieved with one hand you know Martin Wink

Brief update - I survived the Alps in one piece and came back planning to start lifting heavy to get that squat PB before the end of the year as planned. However, as usual, nothing in my life runs smooth and I came off the bike at the weekend in Bristol of all f**king places Roll-Eyes

So now I have a broken and wired thumb and am out for the forseeable future. Although I will be trying to find a gym in Brum with a decent leg press so I don't loose it completely over the recuperating weeks.

Any suggestions for useful stuff I can do with only one arm would be much appreciated! I've resorted to squats and lunges with a backpack full of weights this week, but it isn't enough.

Here's the x-rays:

Trained at Sugden last night - heck that was a bit of a shock........I always forget it looks like a war zone....plates everywhere, dumbells everywhere, benches falling apart.

Dammit I miss the sugden.
Unhappy
If you were to train with me, Baz and MrSmall come September time we could have the second wave of Sugden Barbell together in no time. I think you could overtake Baz's total pretty quickly anyway. :P

Sounds good - I'll prolly be about in Manc a bit more 'cause we seem to be picking up a fair bit of work oop North.

Having some decent spotters around would be useful (normally I get assisted from the first rep - I guess 'cause im a girl Roll-Eyes Roll-Eyes )

Ooooh ooh nearly time to go kill myself down a big mountainside. Heck I can't wait.

Have trained at sugden a couple of times really (prolly more dangerous than mountainbiking in the Alps - I nearly forget to tighten the ends of the Oly bar before squatting - it was just about to fall off as usual. And there isn't a single bench left with all the bolts in Eek ). Despite still being a bit on the skinnyminny side I managed 124 kg for 3 sets of 8 easily on the leg press and a bit of front and back squats. And lots of chins (being lighter definately has it's avantages there).

No serious lifting this week or next, but I'll be starting a new routine in squats when I get back the following week. They seem to be trundling along nicely so am just going to focus on them for a bit and see if I can squeeze out a PB before the end of October. Not unlikely. Cool

That's better. Laid back is far more impressive than laid around! (As an answer, of courseWink .)

Joni - you were in a heavy, open comp that you qualified for and you didn't come last - I'd say that's good progress.

Damn right
