Strong session Ian.

Very nice 200 for a double.
AvatarFinch
Thanks chaps, the original plan was to just go up to a double at 190 but it felt comfortable and the banker shamed me somewhat by putting in a set of 5 at 250 so I swapped a planned 3x170 for a 200 double.

I'm still having some problems with the right shoulder and the left elbow Ed, but at my age you have to acknowledge that it will probably never get any better. According to our physioman I have a twisted back!!!!! which means that I am constantly over compensating in one way or another when benching. That said, yesterday's 115 felt really easy especially as I thought Red Finger Pete was going to stretch the pause out to 5 minutes.

Friday 15th.

Well we had a smashing time at the Farm tonight. Anybody that's been to the Farm will know that we ahve a big glass wall with big glass doors all down one side. Not anymore we don't. Some plonker (I won't name him - Kevin) decided to poke a bar through them. We spent the first 20 minutes sweeping up glass!!!!! It's a good job that there was a good crowd in to help clear up.

Weighed in at 115.35K a little better but I've been out on the Newcy Brown tonight so it'll all be back on now.

Squatting with Snerpjo and benching on my own.

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 110
5 x 130
2 x 145
2 x 155
2 x 165
2 x 155
5 x 130
Strangely, the 130's and 145's felt really heavy whilst the heavier sets were easy. All the squats were good and deep so I have to be pleased with this session.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 70
5 x 90
3 x 100
1 x 110
1 x 120
1 x 125
5 x 105
2 x 5 x 100 Close Grip.
All the singles were touch and go whilst the last presses on the reps were all paused. I'm a little dissapointed with this, the 120 was really easy and I was hoping for 130 but the 125 was seriously difficult and seemed to take forever to grind out so I settled for 5x105 instead.
AvatarLurkio
Good session Ian. I texted Kevin this morning saying "I underderstand you had a smashing session last night". He replied with, "nah, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be". Grin Grin Grin
AvatarEDCLARKE
another good session mate 130k will be there in a few weeks!
AvatarFinch
Cheers Ed,

Monday 18th January 2010.

Well tonight was one those s*it sessions when I could just not get my head around training, I just felt bloated and lethargic. I think I need a holiday, it's been nearly three weeks since the last.

Weighed in at 116.6 kilos, which I'm putting down to all the food I ate at the English Powerlifting Association AGM yesterday.
Deadlifts on my own and benching with loads of people.

Deadlift.
10 x 70
5 x 120
2 x 160
2 x 175
2 x 190
205 Failed twice....
3 x 180
5 x 165
Absolute rubbish, the 205's should have been doubles but on both attempts I only got the bar about a foot of the floor.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 70
8 x 90
4 x 5 x 105 This should have been 5x5 but on the 5th set the bar felt un-balanced and after two presses the banker realised that he had left off the 2.5K on his side. After adding the extra 2.5K I only managed a further 4 presses. So
2 x 102.5 + 4 x 105
5 x 100 Close Grip.
Avatarb_rex
How are the elbows these days?
AvatarFinch
The elbow is a lot better these days B, I still get the pain when starting on the bench but if I put in a few warm up sets the pain eventually fades away as the session proceeds.

Wednesday 20th Jan.

Weighed in at 115.45K
Squatting with Snerpjo and benching with Kevin and Gordon.

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 130
1 x 150
1 x 165
1 x 175
3 x 150
5 x 130
Pleased with this although I nearly screwed up the 165 by losing form and leaning forward. The 175 felt easy.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 70
7 x 100
5 x 107.5
3 x 112.5
2 x 117.5
1 x 122.5
1 x 127.5 Failed, the bar stalled about 4 inches off the chest.
2 x 117.5
3 x 112.5
4 x 107.5 Should have been 5x but I'm getting tired by this point.
4 x 100 Close Grip, should have been 5x but arms turned to jelly.
Pleased overall but dissapointed with the 127. The original plan was just to go up to 122 but it felt so easy. I was taking around 2 minutes between sets and by the end the arms were shot.

I'm off on holiday tomorrow so no more gym until Friday 29th. Happy

Solid lifting. Have a nice holiday, mate.
AvatarFinch
Strewth, I go away for a week and my log is half way down page 6!

Friday 29th January.

First night back after my holiday. Weighed in at 118.0 Kilos, heaviest for some time, but what did you expect after an all you can eat cruise? I could get my lever belt on but I could not do it up so I decided to have an easy session.

Deadlift.
10 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 130
3 x 150
3 x 160
3 x 170
3 x 160
5 x 150
Nothing too taxing but my palms are burning now, it's amazing how soft they go after not deadlifting for two weeks.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 60
5 x 80
5 x 3 x 100
2 x 5 x 90 Close Grip.
Not heavy but they felt "funny" can't explain why.

Back to normal and back on the diet next week.
AvatarFinch
Monday 1st Feb.

Weighed in at 117.65K. Still too fat.
Squatting with Snerpjo and the Banker. Benching on my own.

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 130
3 x 140
3 x 142.5
3 x 145
3 x 147.5
3 x 150
All good and deep, no problems, exactly as planned.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 60
6 x 80
4 x 100
2 x 110
1 x 115
2 x 110
4 x 100
2 x 5 x 90 Close Grip.
Last press paused in every set. No problems.

I'll be down at Letchworth for the EM un-equipped on Sunday, 20 lifters apparently and I think that 6 or 7 of them are from the Farm. Sharn, Kev, The Banker, Blondie, Old Git and Big Dave (I'm not sure about Shaun), what's more I'm not one of them (retired you know).

We regularly get new guy's coming down to the Farm, often they come in and claim to have hit big bench's and squats at their "other" or "last" gym but mysteriously they cannot get close to these figures any more. Today however we had a new lad come in and claim to have done no real lifting before, just a bit of benching at his athletics club. He is 17 and weighs around 80K, he tried some squats and showed real good form and completed 3 sets of 8 at 100K, however on the bench he also pinged up 3 good sets of 8 at 100K (I would struggle to do that). Now to my mind that is impressive, however he then went on to pick up 200K in his spongy trainers, the technique was poor but it flew up. I think that we might have found a new protege - watch this space.
AvatarEDCLARKE
he was'nt the lad who saw my video on youtube was he ,if he was do I get comission?Grin
AvatarFinch
I've no idea Ed, he did not mention it, but he came all the way over to the Farm from the Corby area, that's a good 20 mile round trip so he must have heard of us from somewhere. I'll question him if he ever comes back and if your right we'll credit your account with something.Happy
