» Tape for hook grip (Go to post)14-01-2019 @ 14:23
I use the 2" stuff from https://thumbsuptape.com/

It's stretchy and sticky. I tried the stuff Macca suggested a while back and found it wouldn't stay put at the base of my thumbs too well.

Should be IPF legal but I only use tape for reps to stop my thumbs tearing up (doesn't happen on singles).

I get the same when low bar squatting. It doesn't hurt during or after squats, but it makes benching very painful. I manage it by doing most of my squats high bar. When I go low bar, I go thumbless. Improving upper back strength and doing lots of curls for bicep tendon strength has helped too.

Anyone can compete in opens, and set open records (indeed, he just did).

Only Ray Williams went over 1000kg total at this year's opens. So Luke is effectively the second best SHW in the world.

» Freezing egg yolks? (Go to post)06-02-2018 @ 11:16

will save wasting yolks

I just wonder what the egg white manufacturers do with those yolks. Pretty sure they don't have magic chickens which lay yolk-free eggs. Hopefully they're partnered with custard companies or something.

Well, I forgot about this journal. I stopped running and lifting, got a bit fatter, then started lifting again (in a gym this time!) earlier this year. Recent highlights include:

- Sumo deadlift 1 x 220kg (lifetime PB)
- Paused sumo deadlift 5 x 180kg
- Beltless high bar squat 3 x 150kg
- High bar squat 1 x 170kg (lifetime PB for high bar)
- Front squat 5 x 115kg
- Paused front squat 3 x 120kg

So it's going well. I'm considering working towards a GBPF qualifier in early 2018.

I just hate drinking warm water which is what you end up getting after about 15 mins in this weather. It just puts me off reaching for the bottle. Maybe there's some advantage to winter training!

Get one of those "Big Chill" water bottles off Amazon and keep it in the fridge when not on a ride - stays cold for ages!

24th June
3.8 miles @ 10:28 pace

27th July
3.7 miles @ 9:59 pace

Haven't lifted since 21st April. Could do with getting that going again. I have been playing a lot of cricket and the impact of bowling has stopped me from running for the last month. I need to slowly ramp that up again as I have the half-marathon on 11th October.

What is it about cycling that makes people quote their distances in metric? Happy

We went on holiday to the Lakes for a week in mid-May and then we went to NYC for a long weekend (Weds-Sun) as I had to go to a conference. So, between the 10K race and today, my only proper exercise was a 3 mile run in Central Park. We did a lot of walking in the Lakes (32 miles in total) and a fair bit in NYC, so I mitigated my s**t dietary choices somewhat!

I now have 18 weeks until the Oxford Half Marathon, so I need to get back into my running training to build towards that. My weight loss has also stalled over the six weeks or so, so I need to get my diet back in order and start lifting again.

Training run - Thurs 28th May - Central Park, NY
3 miles in 28:22 (9:24 mins/mile)
Avg HR 173

Training run - Sat 6th June
2.5 miles in 22:52 (8:56 mins/mile)
Avg HR 170
