great squat mate
AvatarFinch
Thanks Boy's I was pleased at how easy the 190 felt, I'm sure that there is more to come before long.

Friday 5th March.

Very quiet at the Farm tonight, just myself, Snerpjo, Kevin and the Banker, Blondie and Pete the Chair, six of us. Where have all the lifters gone?
Weighed in at 117.1K, not too bad considering I had a long lunch with customers earlier today.
Deadlifts on my own and Benches with the Banker and Pete the Chair.

Deadlift.
10 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 160
3 x 200 - 3x PB.
1 x 222.5 Failed twice.
3 x 190
4 x 180
5 x 170
Despite the PB I'm really pissed off with myself at this session. When I started I had no intention of attempting a single PB, simply nailing the 3x200 that defeated me two Fridays back, however the tonights 3x200 felt easy so I convinced myself to have a pop at the 222 - mistake. The first attempt came off the floor, just, the second attempt did not budge. Failed singles apart it was a good session.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 70
5 x 100
3 x 110
2 x 117.5
1 x 125
2 x 117.5
5 x 112.5 - 5x PB.
2 x 5 x 100 Close Grip.
I'm still easing my hands out a little and trying to drive more with my legs as suggested by Rick at Addlington earlier in the week. Pleased at how easy the 125 and second 117 double felt, I veered away from my schedule which had me down for a 2nd 3x110 but as I was feeling good and my 5x PB was only 110 I put a couple of biscuits on and aimed for 3 which was easy, the 4th was a little harder and the 5th was a grinder but it went up.

Two PB's in one night!
The Banker and Blondie were also lifting well tonight, The Banker squated 270 and benched 180 whilst Blondie squated 210, benched 140 and picked up 250 all in the space of 90 minutes.

Great lifting, a couple of rep PBs for a session is excellent going. You are going through a good period lifting-wise at the moment. Are you going to compete this year?
Avatarandysmiles
nice pb's mate!
AvatarFinch
Thanks guy's.
I'm still saying no to competing Bill, it felt good to say "that's it" after last years British.

I'm afraid if you keep on hitting PBs willy-nilly you may have to rethink that. You know, public pressure and all that.

Monday 8th March.

I went to the GBPF AGM yesterday and I really don't know what to report about it. Dissapointing is probably the best that I can come up with. I'm seriously starting to wonder if the current exec committee are capable of moving our sport along. Anyhow, they have another 12 months, if they continue as they have for the past 12 some people should take a step to the side. Trouble is, who is going to replace them?

Eleven of us at the Farm tonight. Weighed in at 117.2K.

Squat.
15 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 140
3 x 160
3 x 170 3x PB.
3 x 150
5 x 140
Squats felt good tonight, pleased with the 3x PB. Even red Pete said that all the squats were good and deep, so they must have been Welllllll in.

Front Squat.
5 x 20
3 x 70
1 x 100
1 x 110
1 x 120
1 x 130
1 x 145 PB.
Pleased with this, there is probably a bit more in there as well.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 70
5 x 100
3 x 112.5
2 x 120 Failed - WTF, arms just turned to jelly.
I called it a night at this point, nothing left in the arms for some reason.

We started our FARM 2010 "Lift of the month" competition tonight. For the next 10 months we are going to have a "FARM LIFT OF THE MONTH" and for March that is the Front Squat. There is no entry fee and no prizes, but everyone that records a lift each month at the Farm will get a unique shirt made especially for the occasion.

Wednesday 10th March.

Weighed in at 117.1 Kilos. I hate being a fat b****rd and being out of breath all the time. But I do love eating. A good crowd in at the Farm tonight, around 16 of us, but no Malc, Banker, Big Dave or Pete the Chair. Sean was back for the first time in months, he must have a competition coming up (Masters), three weeks training is about his norm before a competition.

Deadlifts with Blondie and benching with Kevin & Red Pete.

Deadlift.
10 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 160
2 x 190
1 x 210 Should have been 2x.
3 x 2 x 190
5 x 160
This felt like a very tough session. The 2x210 would have been a PB but the 2nd lift only came about 4 inches of the floor. All of the 190's were real grinders and much tougher than they should have been so despite only missing one pull I feel as though this was not a good evenings work.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 70
5 x 100
3 x 112.5
2 x 120
1 x 127.5 Best since last years injury.
2 x 120
3 x 112.5
2 x 5 x 102.5 Close Grip.
This was the sesssion that I failed to complete on Monday. Pleased with the 120 doubles but the 127 felt way heavier than I was expecting and took some finishing.
AvatarEDCLARKE
you've had some great sessions lately mate ,be a shame to retire whilst your still hitting pb's!
AvatarFinch
Cheers Ed.
Sometimes I think that if I could get on top of the weight thing I might have a play again, but then I remember.........and think nahh. With no competitions on the horizon I don't have to worry about peaking and the like, also if I miss a couple of sessions it does not really matter. I was watching Kev put some effort in yesterday, squat260/bench155/deadlift280, all in a 2 hour session as he is aiming to peak in 4 weeks at the masters. Then he tells me that he is weighing 92.5K at the mo and he will struggle to get under 90 etc, etc, etc.
Too stressful for me at the moment.
AvatarEDCLARKE
fair enough mate it's all about enjoyment ,if your enjoying what your doing at the moment dont change it!
AvatarFinch
Friday 12th March.

Weighed in at 118.4K, whoops, I think that it's time to start another diet (I can't believe that I have just typed that whilst finishing of an entire packet of custard creams).

Fairly quiet at the Farm tonight, Benching with Blondie, & Lurkio (Welcome back Malc). Squatting with the Banker (I say squatting, the banker spent most of the evening just thinking about squatting).

Squats.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 120 Half squats.
5 x 160 Half Squats.
5 x 180 Half Squats.
5 x 200 Half squats.
3 x 210 Half Squats.
1 x 192.5 Full squat PB.
2 x 180 Full squats 2x PB.
I am VERY pleased with this session, the 200 set was going to be a 3x and the 210 was going to be a single. After the 1/2 squats I was feeling good so I put the 192 on the bar, it felt comfortable unracking it (especially after the 210), I squatted deep and came up fairly easy. So I did the same with the 180's, my previous 2x PB was 175. There is still more to come but that's for another night.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 70
5 x 105
5 x 107.5
5 x 110
5 x 107.5
5 x 105
5 x 105 Close Grip.
This felt like a good session, the 5th press in every set was tough, just as it should be.

Pleased with tonights workout.

The Farm lift of the month event continues, March's lift is the un-equipped front squat. I have to say that I am amazed at just how many powerlifters are frightened of front squats, some people have only posted a nominal 20K lift "it hurts my wrists" or "I can't bend my arms like that" or "I can't breath". What a bunch of whinging nancy's.
AvatarEDCLARKE
great squat pb,your on fire at the moment knocking out pb's left and right! I'm impressed!
AvatarLurkio
Excellent squatting Ian, great PB's.
AvatarFinch
So after hitting a few PB's in the last couple of weeks, today was the day to crash and burn,,,,,,,Unhappy

Monday 15th.
First the excuses. I've felt rough all weekend, a sore throat and a blocked nose, not quite man flu, but close. I also had two heavy cross trainer sessions at the poncy gym on Sat/Sun. Weighed in at 117.15K.

Deadlift.
10 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 160
2 x 190
1 x 210 Another failed attempt at a double PB, the first lift took forever to come up.
0 x 195 Should have been a double but the legs had gone and the bar did not move.
0 x 185 Should have been another double but still unable to move the bar.
5 x 165 Bl**dy hard work.
Really dissapointed, absolutely nothing in the legs tonight.

Bench.
20 x 20
10 x 70
5 x 105
3 x 115
2 x 122.5 Equals PB.
1 x 135 Failed PB attempt, the bar only came about 2 inches of my chest.
1 x 130 Failed as above.
2 x 5 x 100
3 x 100 Close Grip. should have ben 5x.
I'm not sure what happened here, the 3x115 and 2x122 both felt really comfortable and I was confident of hitting the 135 but it felt like somebody simply turned my arms off. Absolutely nothing left afterwards.

A really dissapointing evening.
