This is what I'm hoping.

I agree, you get all these kids thinking theyre gonna be superstars and think they will sacrifice everything: their health, life, family to become a superstar. But the reality is when they dont become one they will regret what they have lost.

As most will agree with you on that side of things as I do myself the thing that were forgetting here is that its Eddies choice surely!
It may not be sensible to most but at the end of the day its his choice to do as he pleases,if nothing else you cant say he isn't committed!

A person's body should be theirs to do what they want with it (as long as they don't directly harm others), so yes it is absolutely Eddies choice, and don't call me Shirley.

The point wasn't whether or not he has a choice, whether it's the right choice or not, but

and I think Marc makes it well.

I remember seeing an interview where he says he won't stop until someone tells him he has to, this tells me he's aware what he's doing isn't good for him but he'll push it as far as he can to achieve his dreams. He also says he can't think of anything worse than being normal

But Eddie IS a 'superstar', unfortunately for every Eddie theres god knows how many others doing the same thing who will never get there and I suppose they never know if they don't try? As sad as that is.

This is another reason I have begun to favour powerlifting, unless you are extremely naturally gifted it takes far too much sacrifice to become competitive in strongman, at least in PL even if you are not 'competitive' at meets you can always compete with yourself, seek to better yourself and your personal goals.

Although I have yet to see this film, I believe this was one of the biggest points they set out to prove, the sacrifice and simply how much it takes to reach that level. I know he has always said about this '5 year plan', I don't know what his intentions are next year if he doesn't win WSM, will he keep trying? or is that it? time to call quits?

Eddie is a top level (in this sport) international athlete and is one of the strongest, if not the strongest person statically ever. It is obvious the sacrifices he has made to get there and I hate to imagine what the long term irreversible effects are on his health or by how much he has shortened his life span.

I do think it's important though to distinguish between someone 20st+ who dabbles in a bit of test and lifts for fun and someone 20st+ who smashes in every compound going, never comes off, never has time for family and puts lifting before health.

For anyone who asks me why I'm as heavy as I am at 136kg it's simple, I like it.

As has been mentioned it has a big effect on how people perceive you and in my job which often has me dealing hands on with very violent, aggressive people (not a bouncer) simply looking like a big strong f**ker is a great way to instantly take someone down a notch.

My health is fine, bloods are good, blood pressure is good, I'm quick on my feet although it's fair to say I'm no runner. Although the prehistoric BMI system would have me clinically obese my hip-waist ratio puts me at reduced risk of diabetes, coronary disease and stroke.

Sleep apnoea affects me largely due to a deviated septum and so I still suffer weighing considerably less and is easily treated, perhaps one day I'll choose to have my inside face chiseled and broken to correct it but my dad had the same done and he says no, f**k that.

I am actively trying to get leaner and it is slowly working, if it were up to me I would stay at this weight and just recomp.

Moral of the story, not everyone who weighs 140kg is smashing in the peds with a veterinary syringe, neglecting their peasant families with no desire to live past 40. Not everyone who weighs 140kg is going to die a horrific, premature death from 'crisp lodged in throat' related asphyxia and be found dead on the sofa, flacid shaft in hand, basted in white lasagne sauce with a DVD of heavy weight heffers looping over and over on the TV.

I honestly cant imagine anyone would be bothered enough to put this doc up on a torrent site

/no offence !!

Eddie is amazing and pushing it PAST the max (if that's possible) but aslong as you have freaks who are 10 inches taller than him how can he win WSm with the events they have in there ?

Because he is stronger than them. Isn't Eddie the same height as Big Z? Doesn't seem to have held Z back.

Stronger than Shaw how? He's never beaten him or even come close. I think Z is 2 or 3 inches taller and is the best ever so that's completely different.

Don't get me wrong, Shaw is great and all but Ed blows Shaw out the water when it comes to static strength, better deadlift, far better presser and way way waaaay better squatter.

Shaw of course has a huge advantage at things like keg toss, stones etc and so is a far better all rounder. Does that make Shaw the better strongman? perhaps so, but technique and strength are two very different things, no way is Shaw stronger than Ed.
