Wanted to do cleans but knees were giving me grief, same with power cleans. So did a couple of clean pulls, then good mornings, rows, bench, DB press and abs. Nothing exciting. Based on how I was feeling today don't think I would've done too great at the comp anyway! | ||

Member 4145, 1331 posts SQ 172.5, BP 115, DL 220507.5 kgs @ 100.4kgs UnEq | Last night, 100kg. Did clean pull + clean complex. Lots of singles on 85, 90, few on 95. Then did cleans on 98, failing 1. Really hard standing up from them, very painful on left knee too. Did a few clean pulls on 120 then some Klokov press. Not really enjoying training at the moment, constantly in pain inside and outside of the gym. I might drop full cleans for a bit (heavy ones at least) just so I can focus on back squats and some front squats. Back when I was powerlifting 3 times a week and weightlifting just once a week/fortnight my clean was almost as good as it is now even with worse technique. I was definitely able to stand up from the clean a lot easier. And I power cleaned 98 back then which I am no way near being able to do at the moment. So tells me I just need to focus on pure strength a bit. Ideally I'd hammer the squats hard whilst also doing heavy cleans to keep the technique dialled in but the past few months has taught me that I can't handle that. So will focus on the squats and heavy pulls more, limiting myself to doing just power cleans. Snatches tend to be ok for me, so will snatch once a week and power snatch once a week. | ||

Member 4145, 1331 posts SQ 172.5, BP 115, DL 220507.5 kgs @ 100.4kgs UnEq | Last night, 101kg Tried on some knee wraps for squats, they seemed to help the pain a lot tbh. Couldn't feel any discomfort during the sets. A small bit of aching afterwards but no way near as bad as usual. Didn't wrap them so tight that I felt like they were assisting in the squats (although I'm sure they gave me a couple of kilos) but tight enough such that it was uncomfortable to keep them on between sets. They felt a lot better than knee sleeves, less bulky and seemed like they were actually supporting my knees rather than just making them sweat. I'm optimistic but the real test will be whether they do anything whilst snatching and cleaning so will try them out over the next couple of sessions. But at least I now know that I can squat pain free. Anyway the weights: Squats - beltless with wraps 90x10 95x10 100x10 Good mornings 55x8 55x8 55x8 Bench 75x5 75x5 75x6 Bit of abs and stuff. Going to try and dedicate a good half a session per week for rehab rather than just trying to fit an exercise at the end of training when I have time. I read about an exercise called the petersen step up that is said to help with knee problems and is something I can do whilst at work so will try and do those daily in addition to split squats, leg curls/extensions whilst at the gym. Gave them a quick try on my stairs at home last night and it was a lot harder when doing them with my left leg (which is where I have most pain), really hard keeping stable. Going to come up with a new routine today. | ||

Snatch 60x3 60x3 65x3 70x2 75x2 77x2 PB double actually, had to chase the 2nd one though 80 80 80 no misses, good. Front squats - wraps on again, helped a LOT with confidence. 80x5 90x5 100x5 belt on for this but was loose enough to have pretty much 0 effect. Good, 105x5 probably would've gone but didn't wanna push it too soon. Snatch pulls 90x3 95x3 95x3 95x3 95x3 95x3 Rows 67.5x8 67.5x8 67.5x8 Abs 3 sets Rehab circuit 3 times: Peterson step ups 15 reps each leg Single leg hamstring curls 10 reps on 2 plates, only managed 7 on sets 2 and 3 though Single leg leg extensions 10 reps on 3 plates Absolutely crazy how my knees felt today, so much support and reinforcement. Will do some cleans on Monday to see if the wraps can help with those too. Went for a massage afterwards, definitely the most painful one I've ever gone through, IT bands were ridiculously tight. | ||

C&J 90 for 4 singles 95 for 3 singles 100 for 3 singles, pressed out one of the jerks 103 for a single Clean pulls 110x3 110x3 115x3 115x3 118x3 118x3 BTN Push press 60x8 65x8 70x8 Abs 3 sets Rehab circuit Most I've C&J'd since my last comp I think - wasn't too hard. Jerks were a bit rusty, cleans also felt not so great but stood up with them ok. | ||

Not ridiculously bad though, didn't need any ibuprofen. Was alright once I got warmed up but will know to be more cautious with cleans from now on. Getting used to the wraps, same tightness but no longer need to remove them between each set. Squats - beltless, with wraps 100x10 100x10 100x10 GMs 57.5x8 57.5x8 57.5x8 Rows 70x8 70x8 70x8 horrible form on the later reps. Rehab circuit Bench 77.5x5 77.5x5 77.5x5 Hyperextensions 3x15 Happy with those squats, kept shape for every rep. | ||

Really happy with the front squats, best I've ever done for reps is 112.5x5 so I'll take this as a PB. Zero knee pain! | ||

Hang power snatch 60x2 60x2 60x2 62.5x2 65x1 failed 2nd 65x1 failed 2nd Power cleans Did a lot of work around 80-85. Had a massive breakthrough when it was pointed out to me that I was starting with my weight way on my toes. Once I forced myself to bring it back to midfoot a bit it felt SO much better. More power, kept it closer. Looking forward to trying full cleans on Monday now. Clean deads Pulls up to 127.5 then 137.5x5 150x3 155x3 felt good to pull something heavy again Rows 70x8 70x8 70x8 dodgy form again lol | ||

So took a minute of rest then did a single C&J on 93 93 95 Think this is a PB technically. Clean pulls 105x3 115x3 120x3 125x3 125x3 125x3 BTN push press 70x5 75x5 75x5 75x5 Volume PB Abs 3 sets Rehab Pull in the cleans certainly felt stronger today. The catch was a bit hit and miss though. Woke up at 5 this morning, couldn't get back to sleep so knackered now. | ||

Kept my shape well for them apparently. Was secretly hoping for 130x5 but wasn't sure if I'd get it. It was ok so was convinced to go for 135. Most I've squatted in over a year for sure, possibly even since my prep for the British championships in 2013! Bit of knee pain afterwards but nothing too bad. | ||
