That's some great squatting Luke, well done.

Out of interest what's your bodyweight now, it was 73kgs when you were squatting 120... surely you must have put some good size on your legs? I have also heard rumours from Sugden of a growing power belly Embarassed Tongue

Well the last time I weighed myself I was 75kg so my Sugden number isn't 100% accurate but not far off. The power belly is doing just nicely. :P I would imagine most of those rumours are from MrSmall, he just wishes he had some more weight on him so he could some proper lifting.

A solid session today. Got a tough deadlift, the highest Ive ever done in a gym and followed it up with some nice benching.

Monday 16/3/09 at The Sugden Sports Centre, Manchester

Squat:
70kg x 5
100kg x 5
130kg x 3*
145kg x 3*

65kg x 1**
70kg x 1**
72.5kg x 1**

*Loose knee wraps
**1 second pause
--------------------
A mixed bag today. Training was all good despite the absence of Joni, MrSmall et al who decided they would train at Cleggy's gym, just because its better. The bad news is regarding my comp, I may have to do the BPC Welsh instead which is a week earlier. Watch this space on that one. If I end up being able to do neither I will be really gutted since it will mean I can't hit my record and also I feel really ready and fired up to lift some god damn heavy weight!

A quick comp related update: I will now be doing the BPC Welsh. Time to teach the Taffs to lift weights! Tongue

Wednesday 19/3/08 at Rawls Gym, Leeds

Squat:
80kg x 3*
100kg x 3*
120kg x 3*
140kg x 3**
160kg x 3**
180kg x 2**
190kg x 1***
210kg x 1 - 1 rep PB***

*Suit rolled down
**Suit up, straps down, loose knee wraps
***Straps up, tight knee wraps

Deadlift:
80kg x 5
100kg x 3
120kg x 3
140kg x 3
160kg x 2
170kg x 1
185kg x 1

-----------------------------
Much to my constant envy my brother trains at Rawls gym in Leeds, training alongside Andy Bolton and some other top powerlifters. My brother managed to talk them into letting me doing a session with them so I could get used to the monolift. After a nervy start I settled down and started squatting properly other than my 180kg set which was, accurately, described as "Awful" and "Horrendus". But after taking my time to set up perfectly I nailed 190kg. With my confidence raised 100% and my knee wraps being tightened to the max by Alan I took 210kg and blew it out of the water. I was planning on taking it fairly easy on deadlift but 160kg x 2 felt so easy I thought I would take 170kg for a single and if that felt good, open with at the Welsh. After that flew off the floor and considering I was in the home gym of the best deadlifter in the world I thought I better do something worthwile. I called for 182.5kg, 400lbs, but with the 1.25kg plates having gone AWOL I pulled 185 instead and nailed it.

So I have a bit of thinking to do before my comp now regarding my openers but with just two bench sessions left before my comp I am feeling good all round. I feel a 1,000 lbs total is the absolute minimum I want.

Oh and Boar, say no more, say no more, a nudge is as good as a wink to a blind bat. Tongue FWIW it dosn't matter the fed, my squat will still kick ass. BWLA/BPC/GBPF whichever!

Friday 20/3/09 at The Sugden Sports Centre, Manchester

Bench:
50kg x 5
60kg x 5
70kg x 1*
72.5kg x 1*
75kg x 1*
80kg x 1*
82.5kg x F*

*BPC Bench pause

-------------------
After Wednesday's excursion to Rawls' gym in Leeds it was back to the good ol' Sugden for some benching. The main problem with my comp moving up a week has been a lack of comp style bench practice. Luckily Im not expecting amazing things from my bench this comp and a solid 80kg would do quite nicely, which I got quite comfortably here. Went for 82.5kg and failed, still a bit DOMsed from Wednesday especially in the lat/trap area so I wasn't too worried.

of all the shoddy rules the BPC has in its arsenal i think the benching is closest to being 'normal' having said that i cant remember if they still allow the head to come off the bench

SQUAT BEAST !!

and im not talking about your height

Cheers for the messages guys. Just about to set off for Wales.
First step is weigh in under 75kg tommorow then Saturday nail some big weights!

I will be back next week with a full comp round up. Videos are less likely this time around but I will do my best.
