In pauls defence (he paid his debt, more or less, so im comfortable defending him) he made the promise to his mother, not his ex.

On a related note though, if she was the kind of woman that thought honouring your word and paying your debt was 'daft' you are certainly better off rid of her.

100 * 5,
sleeves on
120 * 1 - PB.

Push press

120 * 4 - PB.

Paused incline press

100 * 3, 3,

» Europes strongest man VIP tickets ? (Go to post)11-04-2016 @ 16:21
^^ Paul is right, I'm fairly confident.

VIP tickets were available originally (I know this as I bought a pair) so I cant think of any reason why they would no longer be there other than having sold out.

10/4 - elite northerns strongest

Plan for this one was just to secure a top 5 spot and get the invite to englands.

130 log for reps

Did 4 reps on this, first 3 were a piece of cake, 4th was a bit harder. This was enough for 4th place so i left it there.

285 deadlift

No warm up at all on this, came back from the toilet just in time to hear my pair called up.
Pulled fairly cautiously and stopped as soon as they got hard.
4 reps, joint 3rd with a few guys i believe.

130 farmers walk

first pair up on this, with some slippy handles so really made hard work of it.
Only completed 26.4m.
By far my worst event of the day, probably 7th or 8th place on this one.

350 tyre flip

Last pair up on this, since id seen what everyone else had done i knew what i needed to do.
Blitzed the first 4 and then eased off a bit and coasted the second half.
4th place.

145 stone over yoke

Id checked the scores going into this event and knew all i needed was to match the guys in 5th and 6th place and id be assured a top 4 spot, since we were going in order of our places i would get to see them lift before me, so i was feeling good.
Sadly the guy just before me suffered a fairly bad accident (suspected dislocated knee) and was still on the floor awaiting an ambulance when they called me up to lift. I was really pooing my pants now.
I very cautiously did the first 3 reps and then started to feel a bit more comfortable and forgot about the guy on the floor a few feet away.
Did another couple which guaranteed my top 4 spot and then stopped.
3rd place.

Overall, 3rd place. Should probably have finished 4th but one of the guys ahead of me played it safe with a pulled biceps and skipped the final event so i overtook him.

Happy enough with the result. Never really gave it more than 90%, and while i probably should have done better on a couple of events its nice to now be at a level where i dont have to give 101% and risk injury on every event just to avoid finishing dead last.

Englands is the 24th of July, which is just before i go on holiday so I won't miss out (which was a fear given that from the last week of july to the end of august im almost never on english soil). I will be going all out at Englands to try and secure an invite to elite Brits and a chance to qualify for the Arnolds.

Mutant. I would say 3s are achievable for most, but easy they certainly are not.

^^ Adam, i enjoy how you say that as if it should be obvious to everyone, despite the fact that clearly everyone doesnt share your opinion on the matter.

I'd say a natural 300kg is comparative to a juiced 350.

There would need to be a fair amount of gear and time involved to go from a 300 deadlift up to 350.

As an example, an elite lifter on this very site made the transition to untested competition in the last year or so and has added about 30kg to his max pull i believe. Is a 370 drug free better than a juice plus 400?

Yeah you jump on a force plate and then a machine does some magic and gives you a number

If this works by calculating air time that seems more akin to a box jump.

If its a calculation based purely on force applied vs bw then that would work for vertical leap. Though it couldnt be as accurate as an actual vertical leap.

Love how paul casually uses the word 'unlucky' to describe someone stealing money they owed to another person.

You'd be surprised. Top level strongmen often lose 60 ish kilos from losing the straps and hitch.
People on the site think strongmen are stronger than powerlifters at powerlifting. They are not.

I cant think of a top level strongman who would lose that much. Loz is the only real example but he moved to power lifting without losing anything like that much. The only one who I think would drop a lot is Ed, I simply cant see him being able to hold onto 400+.

As for strongmen being better powerlifters than actual powerlifters I don't think I've seen anyone make that argument so I wont discuss how daft an idea it is.

No but seriously the 100m cant be that hard.

You are right of course, breaking world records is a piece of piss, that's why they get broken every single day. I mean surely Bolt is only a week or two away from knocking .7s off his 100m time!

dr_hazbun said:Bare handed with no hitch and you'll find that a 300 kg deadlift will no longer be as commonplace as this thread is implying. (Whether in a deadlift suit or not and regardless of whether sumo or conventional). Poor grip and small hands will take out quite a few who think they can hoik up 300 with straps and bad form.

Id still expect most strongmen to be able to do an unhitched 300 if they can pull about 320 with a hitch.
I dont see the absence of straps as a big issue for a single rep.
