I'd expect there are probably quite a few bodybuilders who could deadlift 300kg for a single. Over the years I have seen a good number.

Bare handed with no hitch and you'll find that a 300 kg deadlift will no longer be as commonplace as this thread is implying. (Whether in a deadlift suit or not and regardless of whether sumo or conventional). Poor grip and small hands will take out quite a few who think they can hoik up 300 with straps and bad form.

It's called titanium strength gym, there is a noticeable effect that once age people have done something it becomes less of a deal. If you regularly see 300 being pulled then when someone else comes to do it it isn't as daunting

Oh, I quite agree that would thin the herd - but I was just going by the opening post...

My thoughts exactly. A quick look at the results of last years British Powerlifting championships for all federations shows only a couple of dozen 300kg deadlifts in total. I can't imagine there are hundreds and hundreds of people out deadlifting the best powerlifters.

Id still expect most strongmen to be able to do an unhitched 300 if they can pull about 320 with a hitch.
I dont see the absence of straps as a big issue for a single rep.

This is very true. In gyms with 100kg dumbbells you regularly see 70s being thrown about. In gyms where 70s are the heaviest, such a sight is rare.

Also, bodybuilders (proper ones that actually get on stage and have legs) are generally stronger than they typically get credit for. 260 squat 220 bench 300 dead are not uncommon off-season numbers.

You'd be surprised. Top level strongmen often lose 60 ish kilos from losing the straps and hitch.

People on the site think strongmen are stronger than powerlifters at powerlifting. They are not.

I cant think of a top level strongman who would lose that much. Loz is the only real example but he moved to power lifting without losing anything like that much. The only one who I think would drop a lot is Ed, I simply cant see him being able to hold onto 400+.

As for strongmen being better powerlifters than actual powerlifters I don't think I've seen anyone make that argument so I wont discuss how daft an idea it is.

Didn't Loz do his powerlifting comp at the start of a comeback..if he did one 2 months after WSM or Euro's and no injury he would lift much more.

must be thousands nowadays who have competed at some level, be it novice comps or WSM,
especially with the u90 divisions giving opportunities for average size and height people.
