Hi guys

I have started training again. Used to about 4year ago. Had a couple event sessions with JC, joni and millsey. But anyway wabting to train again and this time do it properly.

I'm 26, will be hitting junction gym for events etc.

But after some advice on training for a new lifter.

I've been told full body. Twice a week and events.
Time is a factor however.been told a session at 5x3 or 5x5 then second at 3x10 same weight for each set.

I was told

standing shoulder press
bent row or pendlay row or d/b row
deadlifts
chest press
squats

Rotate squat and deads each week.

Does that sound about right for first year of training?

For a complete newbie, I would recommend Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5 x 5. I don't think training events is worth it until you've established a decent base level of strength

Granted my lifts are low

Squat is 100kg dead 120kg push press 65kg.

Lots of training needed yet. Been training at home but equipment I have is only to 110kg anyway and think gym enviroment be good again.

I'm new-ish to Strongman myself, but I train 3 days a week

1.Deadlifts + accessories (biceps / back)
2.Pressing + tricep work
3. Events day

Adding an extra day for a squat only day soon.

If I was you, I would do the events days! Get a decent feel of the events, equipment and work on technique over and over on each event. Nail the technique at a ligher weight that way when you actually lift heavy (which is relative to the person) you will find it easier & less injury prone

I don't quite agree with this.I agree with terminator....get ur strength up 1st.events will vary in every comp so don't see the point in drilling events.maybe you could do them twice a month and do more common events like,yoke,farmers,stones...or evan put some medly's together,to work on conditioning..?
This is just what I would do mate...as I don't plan on competeing till june/july next year,I'm taking a lil break from events to concentrate on static, and conditioning and weaknesses...

id agree with this pretty much. id add events once your more used to the workload of ur gym lifting. or do light events for technique and speed work

also maybe have a look into 5/3/1 boring but big template.

1st step - get a year of decent gym training under your belt.

Deffinatly conditioning with medley stuff etc would be good for me.
Even oif doing events light will it not help to build strength?

I understand a good year of solid lifting will be good. Get some static strength up.

it wud depend how light and how new to lifting you are. apparently beginners can gain strength using loads as little as 40% of max, advanced from 75% to 85% load of 1rm.

I used to lift rregular for about 3 years. Foolish in how I lifted tho. Then for about 4 years I was off and on and never really did anything. I have now been lifting again getting consistant for couple of months.

if you wanna do events

Monday/Day one
squat 5x5
bench 5x5
bent over row 5x5
abs

Wednesday/day two
Strict 3x3
dead 3x3
chins 5 sets till failure
abs

Saturday/day 3
events

including one overhead, one moving, one loading

deload when tired

Otherwise stronglifts

Im going to respectfully disagree with some folk and say if you wanna do events at this point it might be no bad thing IF you wanna go into strongman as its just more time under the bar and in a good environment at that. just take it easy to start with and deload enough
