Not necessarily, but it isn't easy to get s spot to squat heavy. I have wanted to do some olympic lifting for a bit and figure that... 1. If i get better at clean and jerk and snatch it'll help all my lifts. 2. This is the best time of year to try. So basically I'm doing some to see how much I enjoy it and to learn it well

My coach has never had me hang snatch (and im a beginner) nor do any of the more experienced lifters.
But each to their own, learning lifts works different for everyone i guess.

I kind of agree with Gingy in that learning from the hang ensures you have to use your hips, plus it leaves less room for error as a lot can go wrong from floor to 2nd pull position

Sam, do as Chris Glover suggests. Anyone can snatch 40kg when they have a 250kg deadlift. Video something which is around 80-90% of your max and it'll give a much better impression of where things are going wrong.

Personally, I don't think improving your snatch and C&J will do diddly squat for your squat (or deadlift). It would probably hold true the other way round though.

I see what you're saying. There's always the power rack to squat in. You'd get used to watching yourself... Eventually.

looooool. No, we get on and i dont want him to think im a c**t. Ill say "Simon Dunn said if i dont do hang lifts, ill be s**t" Grin

If he thinks theyre s**t, so do i.

I did some hang cleans before to warm up when he were there....he might of let me off cos im a n00b and was only warming up...
