Is there anyone else in the world that thinks there is a difference between asking to borrow someone elses ebook and downloading it from a torrent search engine ?

Look at it this way, if you sell plates (gym plates for bars and stuff) and you sell 200kg of plates to some dude. And then that dude gives 100kg to one of his friends for a year untill he get strong enough to use them back. Is that person's friend stealing? Because he got free plates! Would the seller be happy? Of course not... but, does that constitutes an illegal act? Hell no!

Of course using a capitalist mindset, one would want to make profit of every person in the world that uses their products. But reallity is not capitalist.

If you write a book, and someone buy it and then you find out that person read the book and gave it to someone else to read, will you be angry? What are you selling? the book or the contents? If someone learns from the book and then verbally tells about the book about someone else to the point that person stop needing the book, is that person stealing?

What do you sell? The medium or the content? Knowledge is free. You can sell the package in which that knowledge is contained, but knowledge itself is free.

i ask for knowledge, in this case it happens to be inside an ebook.

Technically speaking, if someone sends you an ebook (in an email or you take it from a usb stick or other medium) - you are not using the original file, you are creating a copy of it.

You don't move the data from the lender's computer's physical memory, you recreate it on the borrower's computer.

Therefore, you are making a copy of it.

Its against the rules of the forum to disuss things such as this due to legal reasons probably. If you have been around the internet for more than 20 seconds things such as torrents and google should not be news to you.

No one pays for knowledge, because it's free! People pay for the service to be teached or for the medium that contains the knowledge.

I ask for the knowledge that's inside the ebook that someone else has already bought from the author!

Everybody learns from someone else. Knowledge dosen't has an author, so it cant be charged! Capitalism makes us think that we have to pay for everything! even knowledge but that's a lie.

Knowledge can be inside a book, a person's speak, a personal experience.
People sell MEDIUMS! Packages of knowledge for easy consumtion.

I dont care about the package! i ask the knowledge!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

given that he said he was a web developer I'm very surprised he doesn't know why creating unlicensed copies of ebooks is illegal?

Losing, profits... money... ! You dont lose anything, why would you have to win anything? Not everything is about winning and losing...
