minotaurJoe | training with a torn meniscus. | 01-09-2009 @ 22:40
I've got a brand new combine harvester Member 688, 192 posts SQ 230, BP 165, DL 300695.0 kgs @ 120kgs UnEq | greetings animals. a few months ago i c**ted my knee whilst working one night after tripping over and twisting it sort of thing. for a few of these months it seemed fine, deep squats where not a problem and after 2 competitions it proved to not affect it too much ath the time. however it has gradually declined to the point where today, after not training for the best part of a week, i approached the squat rack with my new membership to the olympic dragons gym in hand, and couldnt hit the depth due to excrutiating pain. neither could i get any leg drive for the log. so i was condemened to train like a to**er for the rest of the sesh doing bench press and other common excercises. i am due to have an operation on it, but i fear it is a while off. to the best of my knowledge a torn meniscus isnt so serious as you cant train squats on it. so basically i am trying to recieve advice from you the supreme athletes, on what i can do in order to carry on squatting deep. cos afterall if it aint ass to the grass it aint a squat. thanks. Big fish in a small pond Member 1150, 2101 posts | I think Kingham has had a similar injury and so have i, the basic thing to say is if it doesnt hurt then its probably not doing damage, if it hurts don't do it. I have stopped push press and squat for along time, getting back to light squats now and they feel ok but i am also due surgery soon.

my face was on fire Member 494, 2394 posts SQ 250, BP 150, DL 320720.0 kgs @ 150kgs UnEq | i torn my lateral right meniscus. i stopped squatting as before i could get to depth on squats my foot would turn out and i would get lots of pain down the outside of my calf. like ryan said if it dont hurt its ok. i would avoid anything that makes it hurt, as IMO u will only make it worse.

please use accurate taxonomy in our communication Member 871, 469 posts SQ 240, BP 137.5, DL 262.5640.0 kgs @ 89kgs Eq | Bear in mind that the menisci don't have nerves, and the pain is caused by other structures affected by the tear and associated swelling.

sumo ?? no ! no ! Member 1399, 557 posts | Personally I would say don't be an idiot and lay off squats and the like until you've had your surgery. You can take a few weeks off and then return to squatting uneventfully or you can keep squatting and risk a longer term injury. Being able to lift for the rest of your life is better than not being able to lift for a few weeks!

I've got a brand new combine harvester Member 688, 192 posts SQ 230, BP 165, DL 300695.0 kgs @ 120kgs UnEq | lol sorry guys no-one was replying but if any of you suffer the same, I found that basically: the doctors tell you that 2 weeks and you can get back to training light, i.e. in an odd month or two all will be bk to normal this is total bulls**t what they fail to tell you is that over the joints is a v thin layer of skin, and as this is soft tissue, it takes MONTHS to heal back. I had my op on xmas eve, and it took till late july for it to stop actually effecting my training. I learnt this off a professional BB who had a similar op in his shoulder. once again thanks for all who posted and best of luck!!!
