Had a lovely 30r20 capped at 145. Went a whole lot further than last time (220m to be precise), and at 141bpm rather than 143bpm.

Sometimes it just feels good to row slow and steady, and this was one of those times.

Cool

It was on the original Sugden C2 table, but got deleted recently. I think that there were only about 3-4 times listed.

The daft thing is that that 6k time puts me at 34th out of 834 in my age and weight group on the C2 rankings, but it wasn't a max effort at all. Compared to my 5k, it's pretty slow (as in the extra 1000m took 4:02).

I'm guilty of not posting my times on there, but I do wonder how many others don't bother too.

In the mean time, I'm loving the 30 minute sessions. Building my 'engine' as they say. If I get time, I'll do an hour tomorrow.

I know what you mean, it gets pretty addictive, I never thought I would be looking forward to 60+ minutes on the C2 when I first started out on it.

Thats a tasty 6k (failed 30m) time sure you are capable of faster.

If you are going to rank anything on C2 site the monitor has to be set to the distance also it can not be part of a set of intervals.

None of the top OTW rowers appear in the rankings and there are a few what I call "dreamers"

Nice to see a non max effort session thrown in too.

I'm not sure I'm at the looking forward to it stage yet, but I don't dread it Grin

Haha - yep, there is definitely more in there. I think probably 20:30 at the moment. I'm trying very hard to stay away from max effort (or pb attempts) at the moment as I feel that it's my CV system (my engine, if you will) that holds me back. I can easily pull sub 1:30 for a fairly long time, but it's my heart rate maxing out and my breathing that eventually puts the brakes on. So, I'll work on that for the time being Grin

A fairly pleasant 30r20 capped 160 BPM this afternoon. Limited time, so sadly no 60 minute session.

14m further than the last time, but much faster on the first split and a bit slower afterwards.

Also, I've been introduced to a new discomfort, which is my right lat chaffing on my arm. Time to crack out the talc Cool

6th day of rowing in a row (almost 50k so far this week).

Cranked out a decent PB on the 30 minute distance, adding 165m to my best. It was a tough row though, and it took a concerted effort in the 15-20 minute area not to put the handle down.

I went through the 6k mark at exactly the same time as earlier in the week, but managed to crank up the pace considerably towards the end. My target had been 8600m, so pleased with the final result.

I sprinted the final 30 seconds so included the final screen to illustrate the 'through the line' pace.

Excellent 30 min pace, good effort on pushing through the HD zone Tongue! I can't help feeling if you can do a sprint like that at the end you have a fair bit of improvement with better pacing. On the other hand if you push harder earlier on the HD factor will go up so you are probably pacing it correctly Grin

Thanks Paul Grin

I definitely favour descending splits for all my rows. It is for me, the best way to keep the HD temptation at bay. I could pull a lot faster on the final split, but I'm unlikely to be able to maintain it for long enough. I think I was on about 1:38/500m on the final thousand of my 5k.

I do keep getting tempted to try a 2k, but I'm honestly pretty scared of it. I think I'll spend a few more weeks dicking around with the 30 minute row before introducing some shorter intervals. I'd like to get 6:20 ideally, in the form of 1:38 - 1:36 - 1:34 - 1:32 splits. That's the plan, anyway.

I'm going to do a week or two of 30r22s, to see how the faster stroke rate affects things.

The first one today was with a 145bpm heartrate. It took a while to settle into the 22 stroke rate, but got there eventually. Stepping up to 22spm seems to add a couple of hundred metres to the total.

I'm going to take tomorrow off though as I've done 7 days in a row this week, almost 60km my right lat isn't 100%.

Cheers Millsy Grin

Took a day off yesterday. Having a bit of grief with my right shoulder. Impinged bit of lateral deltoid, the osteo reckons. Stretching and no pressing for the time being.

But because it's been niggling, I've been carrying my shoulder slightly unusually, so now my whole shoulder is aching a bit. From my trap to my lat to my rear delt.

Rowing is 99% fine though, so did a bit today:

C2:

1000m WU - 1270m

20:00.00 - 5641m R22 1:46.3/500m 160bpm

1000m CD - 1276m

I don't have an R20 at 160bpm to compare it to, but my R22 today was almost 3 seconds per 500m faster over the first 12 minutes compared to my R20 over the same distance.

Shoulder feels better than before rowing, so that is a plus.

I had my first (and I daresay, only) go at a half marathon today.

My target was 1:49/500m pace, for around 1.16:30 (accounting for a little sprint at the end). My plan was gentle negative splitting all the way to the end. This went to plan, for the most part, but then as the finish line approached, I had a chap called Tandstad on the C2 forum's time of around 1.16:15 in my head so I pulled out all the stops for the final 3k. Really, really hard, but weirdly, the worst bit was around the hour. I had a hard time not HDing at the hour point, but actually felt a little light-headed after that and almost HDed around 1.03:00.

Anyway, very pleased with the result of 1.16:06.5. It's without a doubt the hardest row I've ever done. My right buttock has cramped, my traps are totally fried and I'm kaput.

Careful, you'll be getting fit at this rate Grin! Fantastic row, half marathon distances are no joke and 1:48 pace is ridiculous.
