Jonathan said:I went to town on my chest today and it was reasonable enough. Able to bear weight quite well on the foot provided I don't have to move too much. So in the gym it wasn't much of an impediment except for not being able to do legs or standing lifts.

Flat bench:

15x20kg
8x50kg
5x70kg
1x90kg
1x95kg
1x100kg
1x105kg
2x110kg - very hard
3x100kg - trying narrow grip
6x100kg - pb by one rep at this weight for this training cycle.
10x90kg - technically a 2 rep pb, but I have done 8x95kg
15x70kg

Incline DB bench:

12x20kg
3x8x30kg

Flat flyes at 10 and 15kg

DB pullover:

3x12x30kg

Tricep extension

Well pumped now Cool

Beach ready!

Are there loads of nice beaches near where you live?

If you like that sort of thing, then yes, plenty. I'm a grumpy misanthrope with minimal tolerance for heat, so the idea of spending a day in the company of thousands of tourists in a completely unshaded space doesn't hold much appeal. I do love rock pooling though!

Rock pooling is too fun - we caught 13 crabs in an hour in Cornwall a few weeks ago. I also a like bodyboarding in the sea. I would enjoy sunbathing, but with three kids it’s virtually impossible.

I did a bit of bodyboarding as a kid, but my real love it fresh water swimming. In summer, you can get some really pleasant temperatures.

Next time you're down this way, pop in for a training session. We're only 5 minutes from J28 on the M5 in Devon Grin

A pleasant lats session today. Foot getting better by the hour. Not really that uncomfortable in the gym, but walking is still rather undignified. I'll post a photo of my foot in a couple of days when it's properly blue.

T-bar row:

20xbar
12x25kg
4x12x35kg

Lat pulldown:

8x65kg
3x8x70kg

Straight arm lat pulldown/pullover:

4x12x30kg

Bicep curls
Forearm curls

Bodyweight over 120kg (120.6kg) today for the first time (in gym clothes and footwear - I always train at the same time of day in the same clothes so seems to be the most consistent time to weigh myself). It's nice to be back up to this milestone.

Comparing my strength to last time I was this weight, I'm down on bench strength (2x110kg versus a 1rm of 135kg), down on deadlift strength (can't really straight bar deadlift, versus 1rm of 225kg), pretty equal on overhead (100kg versus 100kg) and I think squat strength is better now (20x100kg is the heaviest I've squatted this time around versus a 1rm of 145 or 150kg last time).

I think a lot of it is that I've only been training for a little over 4 months in 2020, whereas in 2006 when I was 120kg, I had been at it solidly for almost 3 years. My rep strength is generally quite good at present, but my CNS strength for 1rms just hasn't caught up. The only reason I'm pulling level on overhead is that my technique is much better now, and I'm much better able to utilise my lower body strength.

Anyway, this is one of the benefits of having an online training log. I can easily look back on what I did almost 15 years ago.

15 years ago?? Where does the time go?

I’ll definitely pop in for a session next time I’m down that way.

Sounds like you need to nail your CNS strength and you’ll be right! Grin

I always remember you had a weird ‘strongman’ strength, where your events far outweighed your static strength. I used to be the same way somewhat. Are you going to be introducing event training down the road?

I miss overhead work. The new garage isn’t high enough for me to do it.

The weird strongman strength just came from being a gangly ape. Big hands and huge reach (for things like stones).

I'm intentionally keeping things sensible to try to avoid injuring myself. Only thing I regularly go close to max on is overhead as it's never a grind. It's technique that gets the weight up, not strength.

I have done a whole load of logs this year for folk to lift with through lockdown. I'll make myself a nice one from the timber on the site we're on at the moment (I've got loads of oak there) and I'm intending to get a 100kg stone to play around with. It's building up my lower back strength and stability that is the key. It's a slow road.

Shoulder stuff today. Foot really does feel fine in the gym so I'll get back to it on Monday with the program. I'll just start it again from the beginning.

Seated barbell shoulder press:

12x20kg
8x40kg
8x50kg
3x8x60kg

I don't get on with seated strict press. It bothers my left shoulder. I won't do it again.

Hang cleans:

This did start off as upright rows, but my shoulder also doesn't like them. So reverted to hang cleans. I have awful technique with this and just can't contact the bar with my thighs to transfer power properly. When my foot is healed and my back is a little stronger, I'lk get some instruction on these.

I just played around with various weights and sets, peaking at 2x70kg. Didn't bother the foot at all.

Seated DB shoulder press:

2x15x20kg each hand. No shoulder discomfort. I will stick to dumbbells.

Barbell shrugs:

2x12x90kg
2x8x120kg (double overhand, no straps)

Rear delt band work, 3 sets

Lateral raises with the bands, 2 sets (my shoulder doesn't like this, so I'll cut it out)

Rotator cuff work.

5 minutes in the pool at a pleasant 18c.

Looking forward to getting back to it. Foot has been much better today, in that it's a more interesting colour, but walking it getting much easier. Even mowed the lawn (2000 steps or so).

The colour is coming through nicely on my foot! Fairly minimal pain now though thankfully.

I'd post a photo of it, but I've no idea how to on this archaic forum!

I quite agree! It is quite apparent though how much the software has moved on in 15 years though. These old (PHP I think?) forums seem like a throwback to another age.

I am indeed! I couldn't remember what your user name was on here. I had to sell the cage a few months ago and replace it with a smaller rack as I've got two, and the Bodysolid one was absolutely enormous. My gym is about 14ft x 14ft and two people can train comfortably in it, but not with a monster cage.

I have an offer of a C2 up in Leicestershire and my brother is passing next month so he'll collect it then. Hoping to get that 7ft wingspan to work Grin
