Had about 8 hours taking down a big block garage today, which was a good laugh with my dad and son, but also pretty knackering. I was talking myself in and out of this session for most of the day and eventually did it at about 7pm, short on time so just did a 500m warm up. Anyway, I decided on going for a flat time, just keep everything in the 1:37's. They were getting pretty tough from mid way through, far more manageable that yesterdays session though. I'm guessing next week I may stand a chance of keeping these in the 1:36's? As for the HR, these were meant to be AN - 168 - 175 which is just never going to happen for me on anything less than a flat out 5k Unhappy

Row - 3x20 min UT1 3r

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
1:00:00 15,977m 1:52.6 245 1142 22 150
20:00.0 5,511m 1:48.8 271 1233 22 149
20:00.0 5,308m 1:53.0 242 1134 22 152
20:00.0 5,158m 1:56.3 222 1065 22 149

First set was all good, 51m further than I've gone before, started to fatigue on the second set a touch, third set fatigue kicked in properly. I think it was just a long day yesterday and not recovering properly, it didn't feel like a particularly hard session, my HR was just hitting max quickly and slowing the pace.

Grin Some people seem to set HR bands depending on the 'talk test', I guess you've read about it. There is no way I would be able to blurt out more than the odd single word whilst doing the AN, TR or even AT sessions. The rest of my body is going like the clappers, my heart is being lazy for some reason!

Knocking more stuff down today, followed by 25m x ??? wheelbarrows into skip :/ Really didn't feel like rowing at all but talked myself into it. Working off HR again for these so no flat times, reasonably happy with the session, hopefully I'll be able to pick up the pace a touch next week.

Just as I finished it was time for 30 min 10x10x10 Roll-Eyes feeling like I need a nap and a few days rest.

Nice to be doing 2k @ AT which was a pb not so long back.

Surprising how much difference a days graft can make to motivation to train

It's funny jt, sometimes a days labouring can make no difference to the way I can train, other times it completely stuffs me. Probably to do with how recovered I am going into it.

Saturday 31/10/20

Bike with kids - 1hr

Row - 1k WU, 4x1k 3:15r TR, 1k CD

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HR
4:02.2 1,019m 1:58.8 209 1017 24 123

Ergdata messed up, this was the session:
Time Meters Pace HR
13:20.7 4,000m 1:40.2 153
3:19.8 1,000m 1:39.9 148
3:19.5 1,000m 1:39.7 152
3:19.6 1,000m 1:39.8 155
3:21.7 1,000m 1:40.9 155

1k Cool down

Sets for a flat time today, so I took a guess at keeping it in the 1:39's. I think I could normally have managed it, but training / life is getting on top of me a little at the moment and I'm not recovering properly. Mid way through the fourth set my legs were pretty much gone, I tried keeping the pace up but it drifted and had a pretty bad last 200m or so. I was meant to be doing x5 but couldn't face the last set so just did it as a cool down.

Next week - same set but x5 and not be such a soft t**t Grin

some serious buisness going on in her Bim , I have a really good feeling that you are going to enjoy the online rowing comp , to me , it felt exactly the same as the comps i have done in 'real life'

also, no reason why you wont qualify for the worlds , you will be in a tough group but you are a tough guy !

Cheers Boar, how many qualify for the worlds? It would be great to have a crack at qualifying, like you say though there are a few very fast guys in my group, all the reason to train harder!

What happens on the day of the comp, you get a time slot and a 'Go'? I'm not sure how it works.

Unsure at what pace to take these today as I've done nothing similar before, after a couple of sessions in the last week I was a little scared of going too fast at the start and having 10+ sets of hell to follow. Anyway, it soon became apparent that around 1:32 seemed like a good pace to hold. I had a little left on the last set so I think keeping in the 1:31's is a good target for next week. 45 seconds rest seems like plenty at the start, but it soon seems like hardly any. Towards the end I was having to unstrap, shake out for a few seconds, strap back in again and go, HR was 146 when I set off on the last set. Anyway, very enjoyable set overall, I can see the attraction jt.

Just jumped strait into these. Max drag - 211, which I'm not sure if it's the best way to do it or not yet. Struggled to sort the stroke rate out, looking at the numbers above it seems obvious I wasn't going to hit r12, but the screen was flicking between 11, 12 and 13 on the second set. Not too fatiguing so I'll try it again every so often and hit that r12 next time Cool

savage !

you will be given the website/portal address which will let you test your hardware to make sure it works and is good enough.

You get your own code which will give you access to the race lobby ...sign in about 30 minutes befor your race and will be able to warm up , when your race is due to start your PM5 will change and you follow the instructions on there

Looks like a fun session!

I'm in a similar situation to yourself - I'm starting on the faster/shorter stuff and it seems hard to use HR as a gauge for these sessions. I'll be looking at the pace guide and going off that. Hopefully it won't kill me. Grin

Could be good as a guide, but 8x500m 1r which is my other AN session is a very different pace to todays session.

Doesn't the pace guide say 'faster than or equal to' (I can't find this symbol on my keypad) for AN work, so as you say, you could aim for the pace guide as a minimum and see how much faster you can get it on the shorter rows?
