I wrote a small thesis in my first year at uni about the biomechanics and its effect on the 1rm of bench press. PM me your e-mail address if you want it. It's definitely not a scientific journal and a bit anecdotal, but still something to read. I think it had a 2,000 word limit so not in too much detail at all. Do you pull your shoulderblades back bafore you start lifting? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wYvE7_tSnQ Yes, i try to pull my shoulderblades together, still didn't find a way to create maximum tightness. Somehow it's different from set to set.

Somehow it's different from set to set. Your feet are moving about too much, and you seem to be collapsing at the bottom when the bar touches, then driving up again on the press. This shows that you're not being as tight as you can be. If you were, your feet wouldn't be able to move! Sarychev's setup is similar to mine, but he's pressing more than double what I do! You can clearly see him trying to get on his traps between 16 and 24 seconds in. It's probably one of the most important bits of setting up for arching.

I never got my head around it, or my body ...I used to do what I thought was a massive arch, look at the video and I was flat as a pancake ! I remember seeing you outside your car with the boot open, eating a yoghurt. Got a bit over-excited upon seeing you and nearly ended up in the boot with you. Oh how I wish that actually "accidentally" happened. Edit: The "thick root" was probably from seeing you there. I even had kinky bow-ties on my lady socks for added comedy effect.

I haven't arched in a couple years, at least not a proper arch. I might try it for a few sessions.
