Steve said:The standard in weightlifting is higher, making it much harder and there are fully state sponsored teams to compete against.

Eg Filiminova is one of the best pound for pound female squatters in the IPF, both equipped and unequipped. A video was recently posted from the weightlifting world warmup room of a weightlifter at roughly the same weight front squatting significantly more very easily.

Boyanka Kostova. She stands a very good chance of hitting at least the snatch world record over the next few days.

Better still. Was trying to find the link yesterday, but couldn't Unhappy Also, I said Hamman was a 440 guy, but after reading up it seems his best lifts were 197 237, and I couldn't find whether he did them together. My bad.

Shane Hammond was a 440 man. Hardly shabby.
There was a vid of a 17YO lad C&J 175 @ 69k quite recently at the national trials. That's world class by any standard.
Your question is misguided at best.

First they US has now Sygmunt Smalercz as trainer, the former polish trainer and olympian. He has sure a influence there. He is of course his coach.

And also they US(atg had a graph) is obviously a mudhut in weightlifting.

And many of the World powers in weightlifting don't do powerlifting.
Also when you possibly have state assisted performance enhancement it's practically impossible to compete, especially with a "properly run" state anti doping system in place.
Klokov mentioned a 230kg bench.

Kostova got the snatch (112kg) and total (252kg) WR, so I am feeling pretty smug about this. Happy

Having said that had she not missed her first attempt (109kg) I think she could have had 114 - 115kg here.

Obviously brilliant lifting, but a huge difference between her squat strength and her Olympic lifts

Interestingly when you watch her lift she lifts like someone with almost an excess of leg strength - she catches things quite high, recovers easily and her power jerk catch position is ridiculous...I guess there's only so much upper body stability, for want of a better term, that she can have at 58kg.

I can't recall if that is the one exactly (video text seems to indicate it was an earlier record lift, and I can't remember as it was nearly 20 years ago now...) but, yeah - it's pretty good, isn't it? Happy

Talking of US Wls it was cool to see Mark Henry at the 105+ A group last week...even in the US there can't be many people who would make Mohamed Ehssan Masoud look small.

I cant understand why people say he "never made it" as a weightlifter. Often by people who couldnt lift a dust bin.
