any one have tips for yoke carry

Other than overhead stuff which is improving all the time I struggle with the yoke,I find farmers walk slightly easier than the yoke,I find it unstable and initially hard to get off the ground, so I'm thinking partial squats?? But that won't help with stability so any tips from the benefit of your experience would be great thanks :-)

Big breath in and brace youself as you would when unracking a heavy squat. Dont rush, small steps, try not to let yoke start swinging. Also find a good place for your hands and good place for yoke to sit on your bac. Not sure bit some folk may hold their breath. I tended to take short sharp breaths

Start off light and gradually increase in weight

The same way you have no doubt done with squats over the years I'm guessing

Also train for speed rather than excessive weights as you won't get as much benefit and can squash your spine Happy

Never skip a yoke day unless you are injured. or when the time comes you'll have nothing left in the tank. Everyone will be cruising and you'll look like a generic Frankenstein!!

do you think yoke is the best event for f**king you up in strongman ?

this is why I was never any good at it and deliberately didn't try.

to get better at it just do it loads, more lighter speed work with a few heavy days to really compress those gooey bits inbetween the vertibrae

Used to train with loz ( he's best in world at yoke if you dont know) an what he would do is hunch his shoulders back and lock the yoke in place gripping with his arms on each side, then he would do really small narrow steps as soon as he set off, gradually opening them up to longer steps but not wide steps, staying in straight line then he would be pretty much running at the end of a run. If you struggle with the pick my idea for what its worth would be to do extra pick ups after the runs.

Trained with loz ,that epic :-) I had thought of medium weight building up speed and adding a few kg for pick ups so on the right track with that train of though that's great info thanks, so it looks like reasonable training weight for a few sets than add a bit for a few sets of pick ups. I'll bump the thread if there is good enough progress in a month or so cheers guys :-) PS forgot to mention I was going to follow the same principle with farmers,as in do my sets and finish them with a few sets of timed holds,good plan ?

Just getting the technique right would be the main thing but yeah is all about speed. Instead of the timed holds i would just keep hold on your last run for a bit when you get to the distance and instead do some plate pinch holds afterwards as this will help with stones and sacks as well an not just farmers grip.
