Label is the problem, Any label. We are meaning making machines and ALL words are action in the respect that they do things and inform the reader of the power relations and situated knowldge- it was ok to say coloured 30 years ago, all knowlge is historical and geographical.

Quite right, It proberably wasnt correct to say that 30 years ago, it was however part of the discourse at the time, my parents used the term back thenm in an attempt to be respectful.

By the way before anyone types it, its NOT about being pc. Its about treating people as individuals and not grouping/lableing.

This confuses me. I thought (maybe incorrectly) that black referred to people who were in some way of Africa descent, yet some Asians now in certain circumstances choose to refer to themselves as black. (eg the National Blacl Police Association includes Asian) and apparently it it now acceptable in certainly countries to refer use the label " people of colour" as opposed to coloured.

I wonder if it is more to do with having the label imposed by somebody else as opposed to applying it yourself that matters.

If you call yourself a prick it's one thing - if someone else calls you a prick it's something else...
John
It doesn't seem to matter how you refer to other people it will sound to some as though your being Ageist, racisist, sexist or have something against disabled people after most words that were usedyears ago weren't meant offensively are now considered offensive.I don't mind being refferd to as white. So why would a person of different ethnic origins find it offensive being refferd to as coloured or black.I'd like to ask deferent groups how they would like to be addressed if they were being described lol I was at school when u was told we weren't allowed to say black board I mean I didn't get upset when someone said white board.

For sure some word should never be uttered and or even invented and are used to insult others but I mean just generally soon enough it will be classed as racist or sexist or what ever to even point out the difference between to people lol just thought of another insult app using jelqer lol (application didn't have the same ring lol)

Do you know if this is in relation the African-American slave ships only or more general?

Another one for you John. Did you know that the term Slave originates from the high numbers of Slavs conquered and taken into servitude way before the Cotton trade. These people were not black. Also, the biggest slavers of African people are other Africans. These people are all black.
Race may affect sports potential, but not it seems the ability to be a s**thouse Unhappy
