Too much shirt. Use boards and stick to 200kg. You aren't even setting up on the bench.

Get to a gym with proper powerlifters who compete equipped.

You're obviously a beginner to shirts, yet trust a guy who won't be able to take the weight if you dump it. When my bench was almost as good as yours raw at 82.5 kg, I was able to touch with 170. Let the collar ride up and get proper reps in.

He is an ass.

He just messaged me on fb saying

"sorry man gonna delete you

added you cos I was really impressed by your lifts

pity you've got nothing but negative things to say"

I am sorry that I get annoyed by someone that adds nothing to the forum other than spamming and then ignoring people when he gets given advice.

maybe, that would give me a f**k load of a long time since you'd have to increase it by 100 pounds. I just found it funny someone who lifts less than me weighing twice as much is telling me my bench is s**t

I found your bench, spotters and inability to take any constructive advice funny

yep tough crowd on this board lol

its not a tough crowd. whenever somebody posts a lift with nice form people are quick to compliment it. you asked to have your bench form critiqued and now people are telling you its bad and you don't like it.

Something radical I know but why dont you get your strength up on your raw bench first and then learn how to use a shirt properly instead of jumping straight into it with a poor set-up; poor spotters and no-one with any experience?!

I'm not an equipped lifter and never will be but from your form benching; I'd say you need to learn the basics more without the shirt first and get used to handling heavy weights raw before relying on a piece of equipment to do the work for you

Just my tuppenceworth and it's constructive criticism; not having a go!

thanks mate.

I have been raw benching for many years best is 160 in comp and 170 in gym(no pause) at under 90kg.Im not annoyed that people are giving me constructive criticism at all...look at the first 3 comments..not sure how I am supposed to react to that?

It was a poor bench in all fairness; just other folk were more blunt about it; take it as you will! Wink

I can see your raw bench is fairly strong for your size but I still think you need to work on it more

Maybe look at buying a slingshot and getting used to using that with plenty of paused reps in before going shirted etc...

OR

Leave the shirt be and keep pressing raw; raw lifts are more impressive IMO!

Some comments are perhaps a little harsh however those spotters wtf. If you failed that they were nowhere near to help.

You cant just whack on a shirt and train with people who know f**k all about spotting or a shirt.

Stick to raw benching until you can find some pl to train with.

i just don't get geared lifting. I'm glad its dying out. if your max bench is 170 what business do you have with 220 from what I've seen of shirted benching just looks dangerous, really uncomfortable and uncontrolled let alone having the shirt rip.

Stop jacking the shirt, you're not experienced enough to start manipulating the shirt.

Get some boards, get a different shirt, i would suggest you start with a titan fury or f6, the overkill is too much shirt, and didn't even think about trying the metal jack yet.

start with a 3 board, learn to tuck and touch low, once you can comfortably get a weight to the board that you can easily manage for a triple, work down to a 2 board for a triple, then 1 board and finally chest, then add more weight and repeat. it will take multiple sessions to do this but it will build a strong lock out and you'll learn the shirt

As others have said, you need to get some spotters that know what they're doing. Guy on the left has his hand on his hip when you've started, and so certainly isnt going to react fast enough if you fail or drop it. You need to get spotters that can handle that weight, personally I don't think they could have lifted that off quick enough if you'd dropped it or failed. A third spotter behind you would be a good idea.
However you are of course free to do as you wish and use this advice at your own discretion.
I dont know enough about equipped benching/lifting to make any valid suggestions to you about the actual bench press.
Just to show you how quickly things like this can happen, here's a video of a similar weight to yours being dropped, and in my opinion the left hand spotter is not close enough. (The third spotter probably isnt there due to judges having to have a clear view). Its easy to be negligent with spotters and getting decent ones. It only becomes important once it's too late in many cases. Thankfully the guy was ok here.

Spotters need a slap! That is serious weight.
