Was a really good competition and to say I was unable to train for it I was very happy to break my deadlift PB by 20kg and to take third place, 1 1/2 points off second, under my eyes and my shoulders are covered in blood spots and my eye is full of blood so no one can say I wasn't trying my best haha

Mat, I feel you are doing me a disservice here. I have not been competing in strongman for 10 years or more. I did compete in powerlifting (mostly bench only competitions) for around 6 years in the BDFPA. I have not competed in anything for almost 4 years due to injuries.

As far as being a novice in strongman I was probably one of the least prepared/experienced guys there as there were some implements (thick-handled dumbbell, yolk) I had never tried before and some I have only had my hands on a few times (I’ve tried stones 3 or 4 times before, similar with forward hold and barrel carrying).

I was certainly the least well equipped as I was the only one there without tape and tacky, and one of very few to not have straps for the deadlift. Nor did I come prepared with the neoprene belts, knee wraps, elbow sleeves and wrist wraps that many of the more experienced chaps had.

Admittedly I did pull a PB 310 deadlift, however I was unaware that this was a bad thing in strongman. If anyone thinks that I should not have been competing there I would like to apologise to them, I was not informed of any strength cap on the competitors. Rest assured that if I compete again I will look for a heavier competition and will not try and trophy hunt by entering a second novice event.

Thanks guys, I think everyone had a really good day. Martin was impressive taking third over people who outweighed him by 20+kilos (I think you beat me on 2 events), Adam Dutton had me worried, especialy on the pressing. I was really impressed with the smallest guy, unfortunately I cant remember his name, who weighed 83kg and deadlifted over 3x bodyweight and managed to play basketball with the first stone Happy

Thanks to Mark, Neil, Ross and everyone else for putting it on and running the show smoothly, even though Ross cant load a bar properly Tongue
