I don't know if this kind of threads been done before, but was wondering, what are your jobs?
And more importantly, what effect do you think it has had on your strength/training?

Has it helped to keep your fitness up to a certain degree? Has it given you a platform to start off with been strong?

Me been a builder all my life it helped with fitness to a certain degree and definitely stamina. Also some strength, but I was burning too many calories per day at work to be able to put much more weight on, yet I was a bit more trim.
Then since I've had a "promotion" and I'm supervising, I don't do manual graft half as much, but I walk about 10 - 15 mile a day around site checking on the lads. But because of the time in the office I've put on about 6 kilo which is fine, but I've lost a hell of a lot of stamina.

So your job can play a pivotal role in your goals of training, how does your job affect yours?

I was talking about this the other day as it goes , up until last July I was driving wagons for a glass company , delivering sealed units to window companies , bulk of the job was handball and on average I would be unloading around 800 -1000 units a day , each one between 24mm and 28mm thick and varying in weight from around 10kg up to 140kg , did this for 7 years and as a result my grip was solid , never let me down in training or comps , since leaving the job to do a degree my grip has got steadily worse and failed me in my last comp , didnt really think about it till a few weeks ago , have started training grip every day now to get back on top of it.

On the flip side though ive got so much more time to train now and feel a lot better for it , on the wagons I was doing 65 hours over 5 days with 15 hour shifts twice a week , so some days I would be in work for 5 drive to the south coast and back to swansea by 8 and be in the gym for 8.15 in my work clothes , dont miss that side of it one bit lol

I'm not getting at people been stronger because of been in an active job etc, I'm just curious as to how if any people adapt things to suit their jobs. As like I said, I use to have about 1500 calories a day more and couldn't put on weight, yet now it's flew on, so I've had to adapt my diet to suit my job as well as my training to an extent

I probblay would have to eat more if I had an active job at a guess, although i already eat s**tloads! As for training its fairly consistent as I usually finish at same time each day!

Father Son Commercial/ Industrial Cleaning/ Window Cleaning.

I think this allows me to really shove my face without getting TOO fat. I also find I'm ready to go full force as soon as i get in the gym. I reckon i burn a lot of kcals especially in summer. If i haven't been active throughout the day it takes a lot of warming up etc.

That being said i don't know how long i should keep this job up as it causes shoulder issues from all the window cleaning. (I have a life long dodgy shoulder which seems to be getting worse).

Of course Gainz are more important than job.

I work 2 day shifts, then 2 nights and then have 4 days off. I can sleep on nights if it's quiet which 90% of the time it is. I get 12 days off roughly every 7 weeks and then 20 days off in the summer. So I find it easy to fit my training in around work. Grin

We've also got a gym and a kitchen. We used to have a cook as well but we lost her thanks to government cuts!

I have been laying 6 inch blocks all week. I'm sick to f**king deaf of people saying you will not need to go the gym laying them as it will make you strong. NO, dumb ass lifting heavy weights will make me stronger not a block all day continuously.

My works not particularly taxing although occasionally I make it more so by lifting s**t I'm not supposed to just to get the job done quicker.I can eat when I want. We have a gym at work which is soon to have a very nice power rack and lifting platform. I would say my job is pretty compatible with strength training. I on the other hand am a t**t and derail my efforts at every turn.

I manage the fitness depts. in a health club.

The only benefit other than being around like minded individuals and the access to knowledge is that I'm flexible when I work and therefore when I workout Happy
