nothing to hide, please follow my life on webcam Member 255, 3732 posts | I guess it would be safe to assume current lifters have found new ways around the new tests given records continue to fall? I wonder how many lifters are tested at the Olympics. I would think they would retest second, third... before returning awarding golds.

Presently the statute of limitations stands at 8 years, however as this has been set by various parties there's no real reason why it can't be extended if need be. It made the next statement of 'multiple' samples still being in storage from as far back as 84 even more interesting. If we ever go back that far it makes you wonder what the future of sport will be. Tip of the iceberg IMO. I would hate to think what they would find if they went back that far with the very short clearance times lifters used to use.

Much as I think they should do everything possible to make the sport drug free going forward, I do wonder what is to be gained by digging up the past.

The alleged samples discussed by the people in the conversation weren't lifters. As I say, tip of the iceberg.

Lost his pen, then found his pen. #phew Member 4899, 2956 posts | I think drug-testing should be scrapped altogether but, having said that - the problem I have with retroactive testing is that as more tests are developed I assume previously "clean" samples will be continuously re-tested until no more sample is left, with the possibility of a "new" Gold Medallist every few years...or at least unto a Russian doesn't win it.

It's too big a business and will only become more prevalent. Work place testing will be the next big thing using infrastructure, process and expertise set up by WADA and it's subsidiaries.

I fear you are correct - however I hope the increasing prevalency and acceptance of HRT might turn the tide in the other direction.

His starting total is 390 - but here's hoping he can hit something much bigger and be a threat in Rio, although that will be a big ask after such a serious injury.

Lovely ass Congrats. Member 5958, 2315 posts SQ 280, BP 170, DL 300750.0 kgs @ 138kgs UnEq | Is the nationality of these retested athletes known yet? What if an athlete retested from 2008 has his medal taken, but he also won medal in 1996. Would he also lose that medal or is he deemed only a cheat for 2008?

Lost his pen, then found his pen. #phew Member 4899, 2956 posts | Assuming he passed any tests in 1996 I would think they would be hard pressed to take that medal away...but who knows. They'd probably send them to the Electric Chair.

Indeed it would, but you would hope they would have to have some kind of proof (ie. a re-tested 1996 sample, or a confession) to redact the 1996 medal. As for being s**t at their jobs, perhaps - but these "new"testing methods didn't even exist (or were otherwise extremely impractical) back in 1996.
