Member 194, 3976 posts | No not as yet, if it persists I will. I don't think it is anything major to be honest, a minor pull on my trap it seems, but enough to throw my arm out of line each time I bench, which on a 1rm would likely place ti under more pressure in that plane than it is used to and my arm will fall off, and I need it to wank!!!

Member 194, 3976 posts | Post Edited: 26.11.2008 @ 10:41 AM by MattGriff A bit of a training update.I had to be honest with myself and my lifting, I used several peoples opinions and gauged them alongside my own to find out what my real weakness was to improve, well, everything. Basically I found out this: My back or posterior is far, far stronger than my legs, or rather my quads to be precise. I am not very flexible My chest is the weak point in my bench. So I decided to do something about it, doing the GPCGB raw bench was a bit of an idea, mainly because it tied in with what I was doing. I have been watching time and time again vids of form to assist my squat. Being 6’1 and having a dominant back chain I was back squatting weights, and I near enough stiff leg weights up in the deadlift. Rather than watching powerlifters I took the course of watching time and time again the movements of the lemon fresh boys. Its all in the hips as it were. Now I will never be a vertical squatter, I am not proportioned that way, but I do want to maximise what I can do. s**t, Ed Coan used to use his back in the squat too so it ain’t all bad. So what I have done is simple, widened my grip to maximum on the bench, the results are paying off development wise, and aside an annoying twang in my trap feel my bench is improving dramatically. The biggest change has been my squat, I dropped right back on the weights and used the squat to dynamically stretch myself, and at the same time focusing on hip drive and lifting the weight more with my quads. So far my legs have grown 2.5 inches since the GPC worlds from this added attention. My squat feels much more stable and powerful now that I decided to drop the ego, drop the weights and sort out my weak areas. I have decided to cut back a little on the deadlift work, while able to pull weights well the key component missing was again leg drive. This is now also being addressed and the hip drive is coming through more, and to be honest the weights have never felt easier. Training is going well (as far as squat and dead are concerned) and aside a little blip on my raw bench work that is going well too. I fell pretty good about training, weaknesses are being sorted out. And it is with a very simple way of thinking: Get my quads stronger and I will not need to use my back as much in the squat, therefore my squat form will naturally improve, likewise I will generate more force using them more in the deadlift. From the way they are growing and how easy the weights feel in my new improved style it is all going to plan. And I am making sure not to neglect overhead work, as I may just have a little plan when I move up to the 125’s in a year or so. Its not a plan, it’s a method! And it is working.

Weak training is still training. Member 63, 260 posts SQ 135, BP 110, DL 195440.0 kgs @ 78kgs UnEq | Well done on your recent training Matt, It takes guts to drop the weight and work on form and no one likes training their weaknesses. In fact many people dont even like admitting they have weaknesses, or taking other people's advice, so I hope this all works out well for you.

One Sexy MoFo Member 101, 2470 posts | Good stuff. Don't you squat fairly deep (for a mono-squatter)? I could swear the last clip you posted of a squat looked pretty deep. I could just be talking s**t.

Do hugs, not drugs. Member 136, 712 posts SQ 380, BP 242.5, DL 330952.5 kgs @ 110kgs Eq | Matt, you are tall, and squat awkwardly - get over it and stop whinging about your skinny legs, you fruit. Secondly, what's this thinking business all about - it has no place in the gym. Lift heavy weights, take drugs and eat lots - there it is, simple. You'll be on about percentages next and bands and chains - I'd be worried for you then. Porky's prescription = week off the gym, take the Mrs over a few jumps, come back refreshed - "ya'll be reet" as these quaint Northen folks say up here.

When he becomes a fully fledged strap wearing deloading brummie hom then it will be time to worry. Agree about the thinking bit though. It dont look good on a lifter.
