Thanks guy's.

Training will take a back seat for a couple of months now as work starts to get busy. Made it to the gym late last night and weighed in at 117.55K. But, for the first time ever after a competition I felt too sore to actually do anything. Had a bit of banter with the lads then went for fish & chips.....

Wednesday 9th Feb.

Keeping it light tonight. No benching, the shoulder is being rested and the cancelled appointment with the consultant has been re-booked for tommorow evening.

3 x 70
2 x 100
1 x 120
1 x 140
1 x 150 Failed badly, completely buried me at the bottom.
The 150 would have been a PB, i'll get it this month.

Deficit Deadlifts from 3 inches.
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 130
3 x 150
1 x 170 Should have been 2x.

3 x 130
3 x 150

This 'business' in Barcelona, will it be the business of drinking wine and eating paella?

Friday 25th Feb. First night back in the gym for two weeks!

Weighed in at 117.75K, not as bad as I was expecting, it must be all that walking up volcanoes. Started back light tonight.

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
5 x 120
5 x 130
Despite the light weights my knees were certainly not enjoying my first squats for two weeks.

Front Squat.
5 x 50
3 x 70
2 x 90
2 x 100
1 x 115
1 x 130
1 x 145 Equals PB.
Pleased with this.

Deficit Deadlifts.
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 130
3 x 3 x 150
Nothing too difficult.

It's good to be back in the gym however despite no benching now for 3 weeks the left shoulder only seems to have gotten worse, it's painful just putting a coat on at the moment. I'm in for the MRI scan on Wednesday and have an appointment with the specialist to discus the results at 7:30PM next Friday.

Wednesday 2nd.

Went to the hospital for my MRI scan on the left shoulder this afternoon.

First they injected some sort of dye into my shoulder joint, "You'll just feel a small prick" said the doctor and he was right at first but it seemed to take forever to inject all the dye in and was bl**dy painful at the end.

Then 30 minutes in the MRI scanner, no problem at first but after about 3 minutes I badly needed to scratch my nose, difficult when your arms are strapped to your side. The scanner itslef was only just big enough to get me in. Eventually I fell asleep before waking myself up by snoring loudly!

As I had been warned that due to my numb shoulder I would not be able to drive after the scan I had to catch a bus home, that was an experience, the first time that I have caught a bus for nearly 30 years. Actually it would not have been so bad if the bloke sitting behind me had washed at some point in the past week!

I have been told not to train for a week (I'll be back in the gym tommorow) and I go to see the consultant about the scan results on Friday night.

Hopefully it will all turn out alright mate Happy

Went to see the consultant about the results of the x-rays and MRI scan this afternoon. The x-rays were inconclusive and showed nothing unusual, in fact the consultant thought that the shoulder joint looked really good and clean.

The MRI scan showed the fluid they injected in had not penetrated any cartilage tears so the SLAP tear theory was out and the actual shoulder joint was fine, however what it did identify was a bone spur and some tendon swelling underneath my collarbone. So there it is, a bone spur!

Apparently my options are:
1). An operation deep into the shoulder area to file down the bone spur.
2). Ongoing cortisone injections to reduce the tendon swelling.
3). Do nothing and live with the pain, taking ibrupofen to reduce the swelling and painkillers to help with any pain.

I'm going to take a few weeks to think about this.

Friday 4th March.

Went to the poncy gym last night and put in some serious work on the cross trainer, so not suprised to weigh in tonight at 116.8K, my lightest since August last year and thats despite having two bacon and egg McMuffins for breakast!

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 135
2 x 150
2 x 170
2 x 160
2 x 150
5 x 130
No problems, all felt fairly comfortable.

No Benching. Unhappy Unhappy

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 160
2 x 180
1 x 200
1 x 190
2 x 170
3 x 160
4 x 150
5 x 140
All the 180 and above lifts were real tough, the 200 was right on the limit tonight. This is my first proper deadlifting session for 4 weeks and i seem to have lost over 10% from my top end.

Back in Mexborough on Monday night, not sure wether to train or just go for a swim.

Tricky decision to make. When i went to the doctors to get an MRI on my shoulder last year i was offered cortizone injections on my shoulder. I told this to the guy who was giving me physio he said that repeated cortizone injections in your joints can in the long run do more harm than good.

Wednesday 9th.

Still only training intermittantly.
Weighed in at 119.6. Whoops.

Deadlift.
2 x 5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 140
3 x 160
3 x 1 x 180
3 x 160
3 x 140

Bench.
10 x 20
2 x 5 x 60
3 x 3 x 80
2 x 100
1 x 110
3 x 90
5 x 60 Close Grip.
Having decided not to bother with an operation or the cortisone injections I guess that i am going to have to live with the pain. This was my first benching for 31 days! Yes it hurts.

CnJ's.
Lots up to 75K.

Home for dinner and painkillers.

I'm afraid that's what hotel cooked breakfasts do for you.
Is there anything better than fried bread for breakfast?
