Scotbasher - forever Member 59, 2115 posts | A very good days lifting, it's nice to come away with a bunch of records too. That last bench was very close you will surpass that on your next outing. Your 3rd squat was very comfortable and your 3rd deadlift looked easily 7.5 to 10kg away from your limit. You were very composed for your first national contest, Well done!

British records aren't that great if you dont have previous records to beat !!!! The most important thing is that I had a very educational day with regards competitions and also talked about training with Jim and Bryn. And even more importantly I enjoyed myself a lot. I did myself proud - I met my expectations though not in the ways I was expecting. My comp predictions were quite different from my comp lifts. Anyway I will analyse it all on my train trip home tomorrow and will subsequently post my lessons-learnt and training ideas...

There were no British records as no-one was good enough to set any until you came along, if they had had been they would have done. You had to qualify for the british, it would appear that no-one else managed it, only one reason for that - they were not good enough. They will be many reasons given because why this didn't happen or that didn't happen, but when all comes to all there is only one - not good enough. But you were. Don't let anything detract from that.

slightly smaller bat Member 15, 304 posts SQ 135, BP 70, DL 147.5352.5 kgs @ 63kgs Eq | hmm thats nice of you to say I mean I am pretty chuffed at the numbers but more because they are starting to look semi-decent than anything else lol Yesterday at Dumfries I played with the viking and managed 58k which was pretty awesome and *really* easy OK been having a wee think and here are my lessons learnt among many on saturday: * dont watch the other competitors * mentally rehearse all the lifts but only think about the current lift, not about lifts past or future other than the one to come directly. * in long interludes between lifts think and talk about stuff other than the competition * make opener lifts a banker - especially on squats or if you want to set records - you need a total and you need a confidence booster for yourself and for the judges to see you have solid form * fill-in all the paper slips for the lifts before the competition begins so that your support or your coach only has to enter the lift and submit the piece of paper * training total is very different from competition total * my bench form is stil as shaky as it comes * PL is a long-lived sport - dont overtrain and ruin yourself young. * there are always people stronger than you (but I already knew that ) * cover the thighs during DL warmups * have something warm to keep muscles warm between lifts OK so now one has to wonder about what is to come... not sure in all honesty. There is a vague possibility of another competition in October but if not then we are looking at a winter of serious monsterdom - maintain myself in the 67.5k weight class but goals for Xmas 100k squat (or 110k if very ambitious), BW (65k) bench press, 150k DL... I also have a lot of strongwoman goals *but* and this is the difficult part - I have been warned very seriously against over-training and this is a difficult concept for me because I have reduced my exercise so much already this summer I need to train so that I can lift weights for years to come sustainably and with healthy happy joints, tendons etc. And also with both PL and Strongwoman objectives - might be some tough decisions to be made... Monday 3rd Sept OK so this "no over-training" thing didnt work today - I am going to rest for the rest of this week (sort of) have a heavy session in unit 20 this weekend and then will take a week of gentle swimming and nothing else whilst at parents, a heavy weekend and then another week off at a first aid course. Squats 2x60k 2,2,2,2,2,2x80k nice and deep, nice and comfy Bench press 2x40k 2x50k 2,2,2,2,2,2x55k Dips 8xBW 8x (+15k) 8x (+15k) Overhead press 2x30k 2x40k 2,2,2x45k 60 situps Hmmm still very thoughtful and lacking in purpose with my training - everything has been about my comp last Saturday.... feels a bit weird without...

slightly smaller bat Member 15, 304 posts SQ 135, BP 70, DL 147.5352.5 kgs @ 63kgs Eq | by December you mean the equipped NW comp? I don't think so as I am unequipped lifter though I believe that unequipped lifters can feature as guests at equipped comps? I am resting until Friday now as post-comp slump hit me at last! Next week and the week after I will barely get any training in as I am away at parents and then on a residential advanced "First responders First Aid" course.

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7734 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | There's no such thing as an "equipped" competition in BWLA. You always have the option to enter a powerlifting competition and not use any/all of the permitted equipment. But you can only set unequipped records in unequipped events. Hope that helps.
