Training 3/3/09

I didn't have much time to train tonight, so I had to get the important stuff done quickly.

My last heavy squat session was on Thursday and I went up to 170x3; 190x3; 210x2 all belt only (technique wasn't right, so I didn't bother trying for a third rep).

Squat:
70x5;
70x3;
120x3 - added belt;
160x3;
200x3 - added loose wraps;
220x3 - tighter wraps;

Bench squat: This is at a really difficult height, so hopefully it will help.
240x3 - belt and wraps;

Speed deadlift:
120x3;
140x3x8; (I always write it as weight x reps x sets, so eight triples)

Stiff-legged deadlift:
140x8;

And that was it. All done in about as much time as it takes to warm up for the British Bench Press Wink Not too bad considering I squatted heavy five days ago and benched heavy two days ago.

Oh, and you said you came 4th on bodyweight.

You came 4th in the Bench Press Competition - you came 12th on bodyweight !!!!

Yet again, I cannot fault your impeccable logic Barrie! Actually, I think I was first on bodyweight in the 125s!

I see what you mean, and you could be right, but look at it this way - If all 12 of the 125's had benched 210 where would you have placed? Exactly.

Fair point. Actually I was astounded that 217.5kg would've placed second (215 by a skinnier fellow). Before I went, I was just going for a pb as I was expecting to finish around seventh or so. Next time I will have to pay closer attention!

No, next time your handler/coach will have to pay closer attention - your job is just to lift what you're told to Happy.

Excellent to see a log on here mate.

Training 5/3/09

First go at bench since Sunday. Didn't have very long and felt a bit achey so I just did...

Bench:
60x5;
80x5;
60x8 - back down cos I was still aching;
100x8;
110x8;
120x8;

All reps paused

Then some light lateral raises and some seated rows and offski.

Training 7/3/09

I was away for the weekend so I had to go to a crappy Community Centre gym with smooth bars (except where the chrome was peeling off).

Sumo Deadlift:
60x5;
100x3;
130x3;
160x3;
190x3;

Conv Deadlift:
190x3;
210x1 - easy, but could barely hold on to bar;

Then some pullovers, abs, curls etc and offski.

Now I'm ill with cold/flu type stuff. Bah!

Training 9/3/09

Still feeling really ill. HOWEVER... since I might be doing the Colchester BDFPA qualifier on Sunday it seemed prudent to do some work in the gym tonight. Cold/flu usually robs me of at least a few reps, so I end up doing singles instead of triples, for example.

Bench Squat: - these are a couple of inches above legal depth
70x5 - suit bottoms;
120x5;
160x3 - added belt;
200x3;
240x3 - added very loose knee wraps and straps up;
270x3 - full kit;

These were really fast. I'm sure I could've done this for a single tonight

Bench:
60x5;
80x5;
100x2;
120x1;
140x1;
150x1;
100x20;

Every single rep paused, except the 100x20 at the end.

Then some triceps pushdowns and offski.

No more training before the comp on Sunday. I will need 645 to qualify.
