I've put a plan of attack together and will start training in earnest for the IPF Masters World Powerlifting Championships on Monday 17th July.

Life is extreamly challenging at them moment but I can't afford to miss an opportunity like this.

Week 1 -

Deadlifts
warm-up's as follows:

60KgX3
120KgX3
120KgX3
160KgX3
200KgX1

Not fluid at all, nigly pains in the lower back. Be careful, this feels ominous.

Work sets

220KgX1- Slow
230KgX1 - Still to slow
240kgXfail - What the fcuk? Not only failed but twisted my back quite badly.
240kgX1 - Ok but slow - should I knock this session on the head. IN HINDSIGHT YES!
240KgX1 - In the groove & much. much smoother.

220kgX3 - Balls, I was going for 5, it used to be so easy.

Platform deadlift @ 3" - For speed off the floor

200KgX5.

Use your head Bob, time to get out and take stock.

As I type my lower back and left lat are aching and not in a good way. To be honest my back has been killing me for 18 months and I need professional help but I've just been to stubborn (or tight) to admit it.

To add salt into the would the wife has just come back from ASDA with a neoprene back support and I'm to fat to wear it. "One size fits all" my arse.

I won't be competing at the World's this year. While I was deeply,deeply honoured to even be considered to represent Great Britain, I Know in my heart of hearts that that I'm just not good enough to be on the same stage as some of the competitors. As I've never been one to just to make up the numbers I've politely declined my invite.

I understand your predicament Bob and i understand its probably your competitve streak thats stopping you from wanting to compete, but as you know Bob anything can happen on the day to any one powerlifter so you really could do better than you might think...So do us all a favour mate and get your arse in gear and do it you might see the results when its all over and think "bo***cks i would of done ok"

Late one tonight! This promotion lark is not all what it's cracked up to be. I must remember to be careful what I wish for lol.

Had planned to use heavy boards at Peak Physique with Rob Thomas and Justin Hurley but it just wasn't to be tonight. Trained on my own at the cesspit.

Decline press - Warmed up to 140kg for a single.

Work sets - to a 2 board

150KgX3X10

To light but I was on my own in the gym so better than nothing.

Decline tricep extensions

40KgX8X5 - This is a keeper

Finished off with high rep L flyes.

Home & straight to bed.

Reverse hypers using a swiss ball - rehab of the lower back starts now

5 x 10 -

Now this exercise will work your glutes, lower back & hamstings and get the blood flowing big style. Mind you I took an incredible amount of stick off the younger members of the gym who were going to have a wip round to buy me a rubber doll, but then again I don't suppose any of them will deadlifting 300Kg anytime soon!

Top deadlifts - worked up to 200kg and felt really good. Work sets as follows:

300KgX1
300KgX1
300KgX1
300KgX1
300KgX1
340KgX1

So much for taking it easy then, I just can't resist that feeling of power you get from holding a heavy deadlift!

Now here's an example of its a small world!

I was trying to park in the gym car park and noticed a Brummie driver curseing is luck as he tried to deliver his stock of steel. From a distance It looked like european masters powerlifting champion John Mitchell. A quick shout proved that it was indeed the legend John Mitchell. Before I new it John had fotgotten his load and was in the gym spotting young Dax and I on a really good bench session

These felt surprisingly difficult tonight. My cv fitnesses is woeful, nowhere near where it needs to be. I'm blowing right out of my backside.

Chewed the fat with Dax & Little Mike and received a well deserved bollocking for missing my appointment with the Physio.

Finished off with some stretching and them home for tea.

PS. It's quite sad to think that Mr. Nelson won't be casting his beady eye over my training log any more. I will miss that cantankerous old sod!
