For the past several months i have been following this routine only i have modified it slightly. The changes i have made consist of removing the deloads and also changing the percentages very slightly for convenience. Oh and also i took out the set of 8+.

2 years ago i did this exact same thing for 4 months (only with the deloads) and it improved my deadlift considerably, hence why i am doing it now.

For those unfamiliar with it, it pretty much is 4 x 4 on some weight followed by 2 doubles on a heavier weight.

Anyway i have been playing with the idea of doing the 2 doubles before the 4x4 instead of the other way round. This seems like it might be better for top end strength. However the last time i did this program it worked very nicely without doing this.

So what are your thoughts on this? Modifying it further by doing said thing or keeping it the same as i have experienced joey gainz from it in past times?

Oh yeah and i have another question too. ready? I have been doing it all beltless, in fact i haven't used a belt for deadlifts since the Roses cup over 7 months ago (or something). Now i understand that this is a good thing for building additional core strength, however i fear that when i put it back on again i wont get anything from it because i will have forgotten how to use it. what should i do?

but since you're one of the strongest guys in the UK, I'd say modify it and then publish it as the Revans routine, it's time to really get your name out there.

I'm far from an expert mate but here's my take. I'd try it your way round, stick with it and see what if my results you get. I'm current toy running the ed coan deadlift routine but it's far from done to the letter, I know my weaknesses and have tried to customise to that.

Friend of mine ran the ortmayer routine for over a year and claimed brilliant results from it.

Regarding the belt, just save it for your really heavy single attempts or when you feel the need for it. I've only started one recently and to be honest when it comes to deadlift I'm not sure entirely what I get out of it. It clearly helps my overhead, I must have it too tight or loose for deadlift.

Modify pal and give it a go

If you used it before and got good results why modify it? Just run it again.

This.

Run it as before, until you encounter difficulties is what I would do.

How far did you get before stalling ? I got to 192.5 x 4 x 4, 217.5 x 2, 242.5 x 2, 192.5 x 8

i never have actually stalled before, one of my main variations is that i started really light so its very submaximal and then kind of never really got that heavy, although this time around i intend to go heavier.

yesterday i did 195kg x 4 x 4 and 215kg x 2 x 2

thanks for the input everyone. im thinking maybe keep it exactly how it is until i get about 210kg x 4 x 4, 230kg x 2, 250kg x 2 beltless (assuming i get this) and then maybe take it a few cycles back and do it again with a belt and doing the doubles first.

the alternative would be to keep doing what im doing and just go heavier and heavier, which im sure would be good for gains but i could see myself getting injured grinding out reps for multiple sets

I'd just keep going till you stall, when you stall, rest the next week, then max. 250 double after the 4 x 4 would be better than me

by stall do you mean fail a rep? from previous experience once i fail a rep i need a massive deload, after which i am weak again.

This style of routines i would personally go for the heavier double, then do your lighter 4x4 after, always feel like you can move faster after hitting the heavier stuff.

Was considering trying this ruitine through summer and modifing slightly, using différent height pulls....

For example
Doing the 4x4 from Floor
2x2 from 14-16"
8+ from à deficit

Somthing like the above...somthing that is writen down may Not wrk for every one,as were are all différent right...so modifing things slightly to ur needs should be ok

Yes that's what I meant.

That isn't true for myself, but if that's how your body works, then I would wait till I had done the hardest possible session, knowing that I had no chance of upping the weight even 2.5kg next week, and then take a rest week followed by max. Happy

Jack have you ever run it at the percentages it gives as standard?
Why do a routine but do it light?

Ortmeyer factors in weeks off (not deloads) and caters for not hiring all your reps. So give it a try as it is and don't be scared to fail a rep
