No straps James my grip felt good couldn't say the same for my legs.

Comp write up

31st july
Kents strongestman (novice class)

Farmers walk 95kg 50m
This was always gonna be my best event but think i could have done better as i forget to breath on the first 25m cos of nerves. Seemed like quite a quick pace but only good enough for 4th.

320kg tyre flips in 60secs

managed 8 flips for joint 4th place lack of conditioning really showed here as after this event i was blowing out of my arse.

clean and press 90kg log for reps in 60secs

Managed 5 reps again my total lack of conditioning really showed, i was taking big breathers between reps, very poor. Not sure of placing but way down.

Deadlift 200kg reps in 60secs

surprised myself with this one, i was aiming for 6 going into it but after pulling 5 straight off i had a quick breather(conditioningUnhappy ) then got back on it for another 3 had another little breather and asked the time keeper the time, i had another 5 secs. Went straight down and grabbed the bar way too wide but still managed to pull it. Happy with 9 reps, not sure of place but i know the winner got 14.

yoke 250kg 25m

Had to drop it half way down the course felt bloody heavy on grass,
not a good time.

Medley: 100kg sled drag,120kg barrell then load 110kg,120kg stone onto flatbed.

not a very heavy sled but on uneven grass and up a slight incline i really struggled managed to finish it but legs were jelly. Took me an age to get the barell 25m i even duck walked it for a bit then staggered to the line with it.
After a very slow stroll over to the stones i managed to compose myself and got the stone up onto my lap but when i went to lift it it just span round(forgot to put tacky on my t-shirt). After a bit of fiddling with it on my lap i got it to the lip of the flatbed but just couldn't get it over. Colapsed on the floor i had nothing left so it was game over.

Final placing 5th.

All in all i really enjoyed the comp but it has shown me i really need to work on my conditioning.

great performance mate ,6 reps on 90k log im a minute is bloody good work ,and as far as the deadlift goes , 200kx9 = take that bulls**t 220k pb and f**k offGrin

Great work Matt! You seem quite consistent across all events. Super deadlifting too.

Good thing about conditioning is that it is much quicker to acquire than strength.

Ed i think it's very unfair you come on my jounal and abuse me for my lack of deadlifing maxes. You should be abusing me for being a fat lazy c**tGrin

according to the first one rep mac calculater that came up when I googled it 200kx9 gives you 257k as a max. Sounds a bit high but 240k for definite!

Gym1 Comp

15m 250kg yoke 160kg duck walk medley

Not two of my favourites these but it went pretty well and i managed to finish the course without dropping either. 2nd place so happy with that start.

last man standing log

Have lost all my confidence in log ever since no repping the 100kg at the midland qualifier. So i decided to play safe and went 70, 90, 95,100. I then opted for 110 which was a mistake as 105 would have got me second outright if i had got it. I failed 110 but then so did someone else so it gave me joint second. Seankamo came out and blasted up 110 and looked good for a lot more. Joint second.

100kg farmers for distance

Managed 3 lengths of the 15m course, my grip was good for more but sadly my legs weren't and just as i started to straighten up for a 4th length my legs just gave way. It was good enough for the win but left my legs like jelly.

40kg thick handled dumbell for reps

Managed to knock out 8 reps before i started to blow out of my arse, conditioning is truly pants. Think i was 3rd on this

200kg axle deadlift

Not sure what went wrong with this event, i just didn't seem to get in a rythm. My form was terrible and my grip was all over the place. Ground out 4 horible reps. Think it maybe cos my legs were pretty spent and this made my arse come up too quick. 3rd place

stones 135 or 105 anything with 135 beats 105

Did 4 reps on the 105 then had a stab at the 135 but it was nowhere near. This was good enough to secure me second as sean was way out in the lead so i left it at that.

Second place overall.

Really enjoyed the comp and a big thanks to james and his crew for running it. It all went very smoothly even with the weather trying it's best to dampen the spirits. Was happy with my performance and from watching Ed's vids i have come to one conclusion, I make everthing look heavy.
