So on my holiday I came to the decision to do what i've wanted to in a long time and i am going to give strongman a go. I've always found strongman more appealing and I don't follow powerlifting as a sport like i do with strongman.
The Big Z seminar sealed the deal for me so i'm going to use the winter to adapt to a new way of training and get use to the events then start looking for comps to enter.
A few years ago i gave it a go and loved it then got injured as my training wasn't great as didn't really know what i was doing.
Managed to get a 140kg OHP @100kg bw.

So took in what z said and took advice from a few other strongmen i've talked to and come up with my plan. For deadlift i'm using ed coan's deadlift routine.

This week is just testing the waters and getting back to training body parts I haven't for ages.

Not trained for 2 weeks so going to be sore


Week 1 day 1
legs

squat 195kg 5,5,4
front squat 130kg 3x5
leg press 359kg 5x10
leg ext 3x15
leg curl 3x15
hammer curl 3x8
dbell curl 3x12
wrist roll 3x15

Actually nearly spewed. Next week squats go to 5x5. Every week working weight will go up.

Week 1 day 2
My first overhead workout in about 16 months so alot of work needs to be done to get back to where i was.

Push press 105kg 5,5,4 100kg 5,5
seated smith press 3x8
plated loaded press 3x8
dips 3x10
lat raise 3x12
tricep cable pushdown 3x10
rope ext 3x12-15

Felt great to get weight overhead and think it could be one of my strengths as when i get training it the weight goes up quickly. Hoping to get a log and yoke next month so will start event training when i do.

Anyone who has any advice on training or what they have seen on first 2 sessions feel free as all advice is welcome.
Just getting use to different exercises and building a base and then when i feel right i will choose when i will compete.

Good luck with this mate..i competed in strongman for years before PL and it is good fun...brutal but good fun. Just keep on top of recovery as the event training on top of the gym work I used to find very tough.

Looking forward to following this mate Happy

Week 1 day 3

Deadlift day! Running Ed Coans deadlift routine.

Deadlift 1x2 195kg
As giving strongman a run for a bit I've gone back to conventional. Felt really good considering it was the first conventional pull in ages!

Speed deads 8x3 155kg 90secs rest between sets.
Really try to exaggerate the speed and pull.

Rack pulls just below knees 3x3 220kg

Dbell row 3x8

Lat pull 3x8

Seated row 4x8

Crying shrug 3x10

Low cable face pull 5x10

Really enjoyed today's session. And looking forward to going heavier in the coming weeks.

Week 2 day 1

I'm a bit in between ideas for a training plan so for the next 5 weeks im going to focus on a hypertrophy phase.
Think my first comp will be Bolton strongest man in the novice category. Will only do one comp in the novice and then either 105kg or intermediate depending on category.

yesterday was
Squats 200kg x4,5,2 need to come up with a routine for squats think i will just do 5x5 upping weight each week or work to a top single at 90+% then do some volume will decide soon.

front squats 3x5 135kg
love fronts and seem to be building back up nicely. 5kg up from last week and will add 5kg next week.

squat lockouts 220x2 260x2 300x3
a few people have advised me to try these. this was just to see how they felt so i know weather or not to put them in permanently.

leg curl 3x15 slow and controlled

leg ext 3x15 pause at the top

hammer curl 3x8

barbell curl 3x12

Was moving boxes and furniture as moving house so body was facked. Happy with 200kgx5 considering and with fronts aswell. If i do 5's i will start at about 185kg i think and build every week.
Just need to come up with a routine that i feel happy with as one minute i like it then the other i don't haha

Overhead

Really enjoying overhead work in my routine.

Push press 3x5 110kg
5kg up from last week and was easier then last weeks.

Seated smith press 3x8-10

Lat raise 3x12

Floor to overhead Dbell 40kg 3x5 each hand

Unfortunately the gyms biggest Dbell is 40kg

Loved today's session and feel like it's just to start for my overhead pressing! Going to enter my first comp today for the 8th of July so that will give me even more motivation to push on!

need to sit in deeper i think but moved well enjoying conventional again. Also need to decide foot positioning.

speed deads 8x3 170kg 90sec rest between sets

circuit 4 sets
sldl x8, bor x8, close pulldown x8

seated row 4x8

face pull 3x15
