Comp day.

Considering this was a novice comp there where some big f**kers haha.
Really well ran comp and was so close from 3rd-10th overall.
Events
axle for reps
deadlift for reps
farmers
load and push
arm over arm truck pull.

Axle 90kg
I went in the second to last group. Was surprised to see the amount of people struggle with it. Most got 4/5 reps and 8 was leading. I managed 9 comfortably to win the event.

Deadlift 200kg for reps
18 was leading which with my injury I knew I wouldn't get. I was expecting 5 as only managed a double in the last 7 weeks. My goal before injury was double figures I managed 10 and was going well but felt my glute again and called it there but had 45 seconds left so easily another 5/6 in me fully fit. Finished 6th on this.

Farmers 100kg 30m no knurling on handles.
Got a pb time for it but my 2nd 15 after pick up was slow and lost some time. I came 7th but there was .3 of a second between me and 3rd so the bad 2nd half cost me some points.

Sand bag load into van then van push
Stared off well but slipped picking up 2nd sand bag which cost me again. My van push was one of the quickest.
I came 6th and again not much between us. 1 second between 3rd and 8th on this so no slip and I would have come much higher.

Arm over arm.
Hated this. First 10m where good then flet my finger open up and was agony. I finished but was slow time came 12th on this.

So 8th overall out of 15 and without a couple of little mistakes i could have come much higher.
Overall happy with my performance in my first full strongman comp. Winning the axle felt great. Just got a bit to work on but it has shown me I could give this strongman milarky a good go.

So not posted on here for a while.

Competed in my 2nd strongman comp this weekend and won my catagory.
It was Old time strength Halloween comp in the novice.
It was freezing and outside unfortunately!

Events where
log for reps
Deadlift for reps
yoke
stone for reps
Was ment to be farmers but how busy it was they took it out as we would have been there till quite late.

17 in the novice and I had a great battle with a lad called James who I beat on count back.

Event 1 log 80kg for reps
I went second from last so could work out what I needed. I needed 10 so I did 11 all fairly simple.
Event 2 200kg deadlift for reps
My worst event but i've worked so hard on my deadlift lately. My pb was 8 at this and when i saw james get 12 I was a bit worried. I managed 11 and came joint 2nd.
Event 3 yoke
This was my banker as its my fav event.
First 10m was fast but my pick up was s**t and got halfway down 2nd 10 and dropped it. Managed to get going again quick. I came 3rd less the half a second off 1st so The drop cost me massively.
Event 4 stone for reps.
Stone weight got changed for some reason so was 30kg lighter then was ment to be.
I had worked out I needed 11 reps to win which I got not realising that It would go to count back but luckly I won the count back and won the comp.

So into the 105s/opens now and this weekend coming I am competeing at the ssc comp in wigan in the 105s

Blink and the times gone.
So to cut a long story short in Nov 2019 I prolapsed a couple of disks in my lower back attempting a 145 log
This caused issues for a long while and I completely fell out of love of training. Tried to get back into it over that time a few times but in all honesty just had no love for it anymore. A couple of kids, work and a side hustle takes up alot of time however I can sleep when I die so here goes.
Anyway finally something clicked a few weeks ago, I started to ease myself back in and then last week started a program to try and build some strength back and hopefully firm this dad bod up a bit and grow me some muscles again.

My lifts @105 when I stopped
Squat with sleeves 265kg, With wraps 280kg (one week away from a 300 attempt)
Bench 180kg
Push press 155kg
Log press 142.5kg
axel FTOH 150kg
Front squat 220kg
Strict Log 127.5kg
Dead 275kg

So last week was just a play about and getting use to lifting weights again after 4 and a half years so this week is my true week one.
No goals just want to get some size and strength back over the next 10 weeks and then go from there.

Plan is Monday legs and back, Wed Pressing then separate cardio and core circuit, Thurs Legs and back and then steady cardio later, Friday Push

Day 1 Week 1

Squats 5x6 working to a top set
Set 1: 100kg
Set 2: 100kg
Set 3: 110kg
Set 4: 120kg
Set 5: 130kg

Fronts EMOM 8x2 did these at 80kg

Pendly row 4x6
Worked up to a couple of sets of 100kg

Wide grip pulldown 4x10
Close grip row 3x10
Ez bar Curl 4x12
Hammer drop set 3sets
Calf raises super set with bw calf raises 3x15/15

Felt really good and apart from the weight lol but its felt like I had never stopped. I find it mad how it feels natural again and how when your training how easy it is to eat right, do cardio etc.

Defiantly feel that this will be the comeback to the gym where it just becomes the norm again. Do I think I will compete again? Not sure! Don't think I will in strongman as i do not have access to the equipment anymore. Powerlifting is a maybe, I am very cautious to deadlift ATM but I suppose I could do some bench only one day, but for now its just good to be back lifting and enjoying it again!

Week 2 Day 2

Session 1 Press Day

Bench
80x6
90x6
100x6
105x6
110x4
120x2

Incline Dbell 4x10

Arni Press 4x10

Lat/Front raise superset 3x24

Scoops 3x15

Cable Curl/ Rope ext superset 3x15

I was surprised how easy the bench felt tbh. Nice pump and feeling stronger each session just need to keep the consistency up.

On Wed and Thurs I will be doing a double session. I work the late shift both days and we have a decent gym here for circuits so will be doing a cardio and core circuit with some mobility at some point this evening.

So last weekend I did my first comp since 2019 which was the ABPU Manchester Qualifier.

Training has been going really well and strength has come back well after 6 months of training I'm about 90% back to full strength. Only issue is I tore my pec (only a small tear) but I haven't been able bench properly for the last 6 weeks leading up to comp.

Anyway my main goal for the comp was 645kg total to qualify for the Brits.
I was competing in the ABPU 110 Classic raw

Squat opened at 250kg, moved nicely.
Jumped to 270kg which I failed both my 2nd and 3rd. Not a strength issue as I hit it routinely in training but both times me making silly mistakes which I suppose is natural with so long away.
Looking back I wish I had just gone 260kg for my second and this is the only regret of the comp.

Bench 150kg opener moved fast and pain free so I went to 160 for my second attempt. plan here was to just take 2 attempts and rest the pec.
2nd attempt and coming off the chest I felt a pull in the pec so I didn't even try to fight it.
I went for 160 again on my third and it was uncomfortable but I got it. Pre pec injury bench was feeling really good for a 170+ press with comfortable 160 triple in training 7 weeks out.

Onto deads. I didn't start deadlifting in training properly until 9 weeks out from comp. obviously coming back from such a long break after herniating disks this was the lift I was most nervous to start again. Anyway my body responded well and my deadlift started to come back well. My original plan was go 230/240/250 but after my bench I didn't want to risk anything so I lowered my opener to 225 and used it as a warm up then pulled 235 on my second which moved really well but I called it there. 645Kg acquired which has qualified me for the British Full power, British Bench press and European Full power.

Also ended up with a comp PB total, Comp PB Squat and Dead + quite a few KGS left in the Tank overall.

Considering I have only been back lifting for 6 months after 4 and a half years away I am really happy with that and feel by the Brits full power next July I will be in a really good place.

think my plan is to do the British Bench at the Arnold in March just for the experience of doing the Arnolds but my main focus is to get STRONG and put up a competitive total for the British full power.

So this weekend I competed at the ABPU British Single Lifts @ The Arnolds UK
I was competing in Bench only and managed to claim 2nd in the Opens 110kg class with a 10kg comp PB 172.5Kg

To be fair I think there was probably another 2.5-5kg in me. I was only aiming to hit 170kg and was not expecting to podium. My opener 155 was the 4th highest but it moved like butter. 165kg next and again moved really well so I asked for 170kg but 2nd and 3rd both called 172.5 and on BW I knew if I got it I would guarantee 3rd. I got it comfortably and the other 2 failed it. Genuinely buzzing after only being back training 9 months after nearly 5 years away to hit a comp PB and also podium at the British bench was something I thought would never happen.
British Full power next in July then the World bench press in September for me.

The Arnolds as an expo was very disappointing. Very small, not a huge range of stalls and some had ques up to 2 hours. However competing there was an amazing experience.
