Not a great day, wasnt 100% committed to to lifting and was contemplating walking half way through the clean and jerk warm up, which aint a good place to be on comp day..

I've been there. If we need to chat just tap me on the shoulder anytime.

Don't forget that this was the day that George, whose only crime was to watch some weightlifting, died.

Unhappy

A pleasure to film, a pleasure to watch and a privilege to be there. Watch Rusev's foot on that video, you won't see it, but watch it anyway

We can't get tickets because touts like yourself snaffle the lot.

Call me an old cynic but I have always thought that stand up is a rather more intimate form of entertainment and therefore something vital is lost when in a huge venue that seats thousands

It would be wrong to let the Tories f**k us, after all Labour never did and they had plenty of opportunity. And there was me hoping that over the next few years my arse might stop bleeding

70 x 10

70 x 10

Tonight's singles were really rather good but all could have been a little better, all that is lacking is a touch of confidence. I experimented with the belt and have decided that it really makes very little difference, but it certainly does not hinder, so I may as well use it and there are no disadvantages. A bit of banter with the good Doctor afterwards comcering coalitions and general power-sharing nonsense. Good fun tonight, truth be told, it's good fun most nights. Handsome Jeff is lifting tomorrow, so I may pop over to shout, jeer and cheer. The return journey will take me right past the Oldham turn off so plans are already being formed. I wll make a phone call before I leave the comp and who knows where that will end. But let's be honest, it would be rude not to.

You are most welcome. Glad it's all working out. As the old sherry advert used to say - "one instictively knows when something is right"

Very cunning Mr. S. Thanks for that

I also experimented with the wraps tonight. Normally I do six times around the knee which leaves quite a handy sized piece to push through at the end. I went for a seventh wrap tonight but didn't have enough to push through so had to abort. I therefore tried a six wrap with seven wrap tightness but I couldn't get my soddin' fingers under the penultimate wrap to push through. We solved this tonight by having Phil but his fingers on the wrap after the fifth and wrapping the sixth one over him then he just pulls up already having his fingers underneath. This worked very well. I enjoyed the extra tightness but may have to experiment further in case there is a lack of assistance one day.

Monday, 3rd May, Bank holiday, start 14:45

Bit of a mixed bag of a day today, it started splendidly as Big Phil, who made the splendid squat racks had been in over the weekend to make a couple of improvements, so now we have some very splendid squatracks.

New suit, straps down, naked knees, no belt, all kilograms

60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
straps up
125 x 5
wraps on
165 x 5
205 x 5
230 x 2
245 x 2
260 x 2
245 x 3

Now I have tales to tell, firstly the suit, although technically the new one really has had it's day. The sooner the new, new one comes the better, I can hit depth and good depth at that with 125 with the straps up, It is rapidly becoming a rather hardy leotard.
Secondly all squats today were of excellent depth as DrRick commented "if you keep them there, provided you get up, you will never see ared light again" Splendid news I call that.
Thirdly on the 260 I stood too far through the bar on the pickup, as a result I very nearly fell backwards, I just managed to be a bit of pressure through the heels and steadied it, but it was a foolish thing to do. Considering I must have done this some tens of thousands of times, I do astonish myself that I can still make a balls of it.
Fourthly, on the last 245 I over thought it and walked out ok but didn't steady myself before starting the descent, but I managed, the first one was a bit of a dog's breakfast but the second two were fine.
So there you have it, never take anything for granted and don't think too much and just because you've done sonething a squillion times don't think it just happens. I have to make it happen.
Handsome Jeff rolled in just as we finished, so we stayed to watch a short, sharp and quitexplosive workout which was a pleasure to watch. Then off to the pub for a diet coke, beef pie, chips and mushy peas so mushy you could have poured them into a glass and drunk them, lovely, damned fine pie too.

Of the two I would go down the Strongman route as the diet is much more fun.
