It's one of those rare words that I did know, and knew what it was but would put good money on me never having used it. Ever.

One or two down tonight. I have a recalcitrant smoke alarm which has developed a tendency to go off at approximately half volume in the small hours for ten to fifteen seconds or so, when, having woken me, it proceeds to shut the phuck up. Help has been recruited, heads have been scratched and beards have been stroked and still we are largely clueless. Let's see what tonight brings.

I would have paid handsomely to witness that in the flesh!

Brought on by necessity I assure you and happily I did not catch a glimpse of it. Doubtless there will be videos with it on, but they should be easily avoided.

I was invited by an old friend to referee an informal bench and deadlift competition, there was talk of a bacon sandwich and that, and a chance to see old friends was difficult to refuse.

It was a fun day, very enjoyable. As it was baking hot and in an industrial unit I ended up reffing the deadlifts from just outside the door. I borrowed a baseball cap to protect my big fat head from the sun's rays but as the sun was baking the back of my neck I had to turn the cap round to offer some protection from the heat. This, for me was a first. A hat on backwards. Good Lord.

The bacon sandwich I was promised did not live up to expectations, it far exceeded them. A cardboard box was thrust at me and once opened revealed a bacon, egg, sausage and spam sandwich.

Bacon, sausage and spam and I are old friends and I have had more than my share of fried eggs. Normally egg on bread repels me but not today. Today it greatly enhanced the whole sandwich experience. Another first. Maybe the spam ?

Apple is an awful shopping experience. I don't understand why the simple act of buying a phone has to be made so convoluted, with 'consultants' doing one-to-one sales spiel, as though you are buying a new car from BMW or something - minus the comfy dealearship sofas, aircon and free flavia coffee (I'm guessing you were also immediately aware of the stifling heat and over bright lighting standing around like a lemon in there). wait until they start trying to upsell: 'would you like applecare? would you like an apple music subscription? apple beats phones? apple tech to show you how to use?' NO, just a sodding iPhone, sans anything.

I totally agree with all this bar the heat. They do try to upsell but stop when you cut them off, so no great problem there. Had to see three different assistants in all, one to tell me who to see, one to sell me the phone, and one to orchestrate the information transfer. All in all quite a happy experience.

On the other hand I am quite an unusual, although genial fellow. They probably don't get many like me in a month.

Some would call you awkward Pedro...I wouldn't, why oh why do they have to make a simple transaction so fooking hard??
Confused

Some do. The interweb is a wonderful thing and I can communicate with someone a thousand miles away, but if they are ten yards away, I don't need it, others seem to.

My worry is that we seem to be descending into a strange world where face to face interaction is to be avoided at all costs and kept to a minimum when it cannot be avoided and has to be endured. That's a great shame - face to face is where all the fun is.
