Seriously ? You want to see the squat restricted to what a man can clean and lift over his head ? That would reduce mine by about 300 kgs. Sugden has always had it's share of maniacs, but there were always good men and true. If that line blurs - lord help me.

Unhappy

f**k 'em then. if it's raw, it's not powerlifting.

I take your point though, and between you and me, suspect that you could well be correct

It's too late for that now Pete. You already said 292 for 3 so that's the target I'm afraid. No, 300 for 3.

Stay with 292 for this time around, 300 is for the future. You have already exceeded all your targets, no need to start making numbers up. In fact in would be wrong to. Let's not get too giddy, giggyness is good, but don't overdo it.

Just realized that you did 270 and not 275 so make that 325 max and 287 for three, Sorry, sure I saw 275 somewhere.

Also Pete, should you stop by again any time soon and read this, I'm curious as to how you came up with low 700's. Most likely from your own experience, so could you please try and recall what kinds of weights and reps you were able to do when squatting 300kg and 320kg?

I use a set of figures I got off the internet many years ago. It has proved to be uncannyly accurate for me, they never worked too well for Andy though, but then again they were calculated by doing research with powerlifters not weightlifters. Basicially they say that for squats, your 1RM is 1.2 times your five rep max and 1.13 times your three rep max

So 1.2 x 275 = 330 and 330 divided by 1.13 is 292.

I wouldn't have thought that 292 x 3 would hold too many fears for you, the 330 may frighten you a touch but it shouldn't, maybe aim for 320 until you have more confidence in the system.

275 x 5 is done
so maybe
275 x 3 next then
285 x 3
292 or maybe 295 x 3 after that then
300 single then
310 single then
320 maybe
325 or 330 after that.

I have a copy of the full system for squat, bench and deadlift at work, I can send you a copy woth ease if you wish

Thanks Pete! I would be over the moon with a 700lb squat.

It's yours for the taking, just sneak up on it.

Regarding the fashion tips, we all unfortunately can't be quite as stylish as you Peter!

A younger, slimmer, slightly better looking version of me. That also is there for the taking. May be wise to concentrate on the squat

I do indeed, in some quarters i am known as "the bloke who measures the bar"

I will second the bog roll idea. I always take one and have been glad of it more than once

Excellent news Tom, I am delighted for you. Mr. Clegg is more or less bang on the money there, you should now be looking at something in the low 700 lbs region as a single.
Just two things left to do -
1. get a haircut
2. grow a beard.
