» How to run a competition (Go to post)24-06-2010 @ 20:56
Yeh that kind of stuff would be perfect, I reckon my manager might throw some sponsorship in, and although this is an idea to increase my business it should also get strongman a little more recognized

Ok so as some of you may know I am a Personal Trainer, I also own quite alot of my own strongman equipment, so I thought great idea i'll hold a strongman event pick up a few clients and have a good time. It would be a first timer comp because alot of the competitors would come from my gym hopefully which is a david lloyd, but it would be obviously open to anyone on here. So my question is what sort of things do I need to think about before going about holding this competition? What should the weights be? I have yoke, farmers walk, wooden log (IFSA spec), axle bar, 2 regular bars, 2 atlas stones, 185kg and currently making a lighter one, a bunch of random rocks and junk that I can use for a medley or loading and rope for a pull. Any help is much appreciated

Training yesterday

Clean jerk
40 x 10
40 x 10 warming up and getting the technique
60 x 5
100 x 3
120 x 1
130 x F
130 x F
130 x F
130 x 1 I refused to give up as I knew I had it, I found that I was having to get really low to catch it and never really been that low before, at first it was a little bit of a shock

Front Squat
100 x 5
120 x 5
140 x 5
150 x 5 PB
170 x 1
175 x F
175 x F
175 x F
The 175 is starting to annoy me know I get stuck at the same point every time, thinking I will work on 5 rep stuff next week to hope to push through it

Done there not the longest of sessions but I haven't actually rested since the comp on sunday so I think some time off is in order

Also just ordered a log from buzz, going to nice to train on a proper sized log, along with currently curing 155ish kg ball so I will have 2 to play with

Quick write up of the comp

To make weight I had to lose 5kg in water overnight, this played havoc in my first event

so 280kg Frame walk for 20m
started off on fire I was steaming down the course then just lose it, dont know whether I tripped, I dont really remember much of it anyway fell over 2 m to the line, got up fell over again, 2nd time looks very like i just sort of black out but finished it off think I came like last

Max log
Managed to get 130kg which I was happy with I had the 135kg up then felt my back jar dropped it behind me, then it wasnt going up again,
2nd in the 105s

Conans 280kg
First time I have ever done this event, managed 2 and halfish turns felt ok gripped slipped after the second turn, came 2nd in 105s

Milk churn 100kg
Grinded out 4 and a bit laps enough to give me 1st in 105s and overall seem to be quite good at these events where I just have to suck it up and walk so more of those in future comps please

Barrell loading
It was me against Ben I would of had to beat him by quite a margin to take the win overall, he just knicked me at the end and he took a well deserved win.

Overall I was 2nd in 105s and 3rd Overall

All in all great event, glad I competed in it, maybe if I was a little less dehydrated at the start and finished my frame walk it might have been a different result but I didnt and Ben got a great win
