Reconsidering my squat descent phase, what kind of speed do you guys do your raw squat descents and is there any reason why you have chosen that way?

I relativly slow then pop into the hole. Just seems to work with me. I can keep nice and tight that way and get tech right whilst still getting a little re-bound out of the hole.

Controlled all the way down for me. It give me better control over the technique plus you dont have to expend all that extra effort turning it around. badboy00722/09/07 @ 11:12
Ditto Iain... Too slow and get buried, too fast and lose your form.
I think some pause squats could help you mate.

I go down fairly fast, but not too fast not to be controlled. Alan seemed to advocate that method. I'm not sure why but I think it would be a different ball game for a wide squatter like you though Joni.

Might want to give slow negative a bash.
Regular back squats for me consist in a controlled descent like 2 seconds then i 'explode/burst' out of the hole as fast as i can.

i think i might take this approach under consideration. I like that little pop approach. So its just few inches above parallel before you do the dip?

I try to control the descent, and it is much slower than it used to be, even though it is still quite quick. If I descend too quickly, I lose the tension in the hole, and my back can round. Paused squats are a great way to ensure a controlled descent and correct depth.

Have a go Joni. I don't think to hard about the 'pop' but its a little movement that seem to come naturally. I have just looked at my 220 squat and you carn't notice it but I felt it.
