As 2009 ends so does my journal, Im going to start a new one for 2010 which I might get round to updating a bit more often.

This has been a great year for my lifting. At the end of 2008 I went 162.5kg/70kg/190kg in the BWLA NW comp, my first full meet. At the end of 2009 I went 220kg/90kg/210kg at the WPC Worlds. To compete in a British and a World Championship has been a great experience for me.

I think 2009 has seen me move from being interested and enjoying powerlifting to being in love with the sport, which is just as well considering the amount of time and money I put into it. I've always been told the more you put into Powerlifting the more you get out. 2009 has proven this to me. I've placed training as a high priority in my life, and I feel like I have reaped the rewards.

Next year will hopefully be another big year for me. I want to put a good amount across all three lifts. I think I have taken to equipped lifting well while maintaining a good raw base (on squat at least). The power of squatting multi-ply next year really excites me and I'm looking for more gains on my squat. Putting a bench shirt on has moved me from being a reluctant bencher to a true lover of all three lifts. Though my Worlds performance showed that I'm yet to gain a large amount from a bench shirt it has made me far for committed to bench training. After all I travelled to Ashton and Addlington to train in my shirt, its pointless giving up that much time and not putting the effort in. As for my deadlift I'm going to follow my brothers advice and stay raw until my form improves. If I can get back to how I was training deadlift in the summer I feel like I can put 20kg on my deadlift again, maybe more, who knows?

In 2009 I've had the privilege to train with some great lifters, who are not only strong guys but great guys to be around. John Marsden and Gaz Boulton welcomed me to train at Ashton as did Rick at Addlington, no questions asked. To train at great gyms with good equipment is so crucial and I am grateful to everyone. I also got the chance to train at Rall's gym in Leeds, where Andy Bolton trains, on a few Saturday mornings. Deadlifting at the gym where the worlds best deadlifter trains puts a great feeling of pressure on you, you cant miss a deadlift with Andy Bolton watching. I also had Andy lifting me off on my benches at the Worlds. Sadly it seems you can miss a bench (or two) with Andy Bolton watching!

My first comp of 2010 should be the first BPC British qualifier, possibly the one in Northern Ireland. I'm more than likely going to stay in the 75kg class, aiming to lean up a bit. I'm hoping for pbs across the board to build a nice big pb total again come the end of 2010.

Bring on 2010!

Of course you dont. Its a privelge for you to train with me, not the other way around! Tongue

Nah, I should say that Smallsy is a great training partner, even if he does talk crap for 95% of the time we are at the Sugden.

Lean out!!! thats disgusting talk. You're born to squat and it'll be easier for you to hold the weight if you put some mass on, as i was told the best shape to be is a cylinder, strongest shape against the way the bar pushes down on you. You're pretty slim so i'd just eat loads and enjoy seeing the lifts climb up, but don't get as fat as me.
