Thanks guys - means alot Happy

I had a pretty good training session today the garden. Nice to do all of ones lifting outdoors

Now I messed up the weights a bit as I had it in my head that I was going heavier on power cleans and lighter on deads. Nevermind!

Push press:

8x20kg
8x40kg
6x60kg
2x6x80kg - easy!

Powercleans:

2x6x92.5kg (should have been 90) - hard!

Deads:

5x100kg
5x130kg
3x160kg
2x6x180kg - really hard. The power cleans bugger up my deads.
1x130kg, convo. Comfy
1x150kg, convo, fine.
1x170kg, convo, fine, but strongman form Alex tells me

Then I did some gripper work with the number 2. Grip very weak after the deads, but got a few sets of three on right hand and a couple of doubles with the left.

Thick handle (60mm) static holds:

30kgx10sec each hand
50kgx5sec each hand
2x5secx60kg each hand

50kg, 15sec each hand (failure)
50kg, 13sec right, 15 left

40kg, 2sets of 25-35sec each hand.

15x60kg deadlift to cool off.

Feel really good this evening!

Had a really good training session with Brian, with Alex watching from the comfort of his armchair.

I thought that I would be weak today with having trained yesterday, but everything except for bench was really strong.

Squat:

8x20kg
6x60kg
4x90kg
3x110kg
2x6x125kg - very easy

Bench:

8x60kg
6x80kg
3x100kg
2x6x112.5kg - fairly hard. Triceps weak from overhead pressing yesterday.

Close grip bench:

2x8x85kg

4inch ROM deadlift rack lockouts:

80kg x 10sec, DO
120kg x 10sec DO
160kg x 5sec, mixed from now on
200kg x 5sec
240kg x 5sec
280kg x 5sec
310kg x 3sec
340kg x 3sec - 5kg pb
360kg x 5sec - 25kg pb
380kg x 3sec - 45kg pb
400kg x 3sec - 65kg pb - about my max now I think. Plus I could not fit any more weight on the bar. Plus I think I bent it alot!

Hands are sore now. Nice to hold 400kg/880lb in them though. How the f**k people deadlift that is beyond me!

Thanks Rob. I shall make no secret of the fact that I am hammering my grip so that it is seriously f**king strong in January Grin

Had a good training session today, albeit a very odd one. I did not go to the gym, and I am back in Derby so I was forced to make the most of the approximately 90kg of weights my brother has knocking about.

Dumbell push press. This was done with a neutral grip to try to simulate log press:

8x8.5kg each hand
8x18.5kg
8x31.5kg - pretty tough
3x4x36.5kg - also tough. Very hard to stabilise the weight at the top as I have never done this before.

Power snatch. Another exercise that I have never done.
5x35kg
5x45kg
3x55kg
3x60kg
1x65kg - still fast and no press out
1x70kg - just about starting to lose momentum
1x75kg - half pressed out
1x80kg - pressed out almost completely though the bar did not at any point stall so I still count it!

Nice lift - bear in mind that I was doing this with tiny 10kg plates as the largest on the bar, and the weights did not at all rotate which made it tougher. I think that with a normal oly bar I could do 85-90kg without it just ending up a shoulder press. I hope to maybe include these in my next routine Grin

I then did some assorted 1 handed deadlifts/holds with the barbell. This was tough to coordinate as there is no centre knurling on the bar (no knurling in the middle at all) so it kept tipping one way or the other. I worked up to 4 reps with 75kg for each hand before deciding that it was a silly exercise and stopped.

Then just to piss around working my fitness I front squatted 55kg for 12 and back squatted the same weight for 20. No idea why - just seemed like a good idea at the time Grin

Thanks Adam!

I had a really good training session at the Fitness First gym in Derby today, training with my little brother. He kept me constantly amused with all manner of shiny disco exercises, though I claim a small victory in getting him to try push pressing. He managed 2x2x60kg, which isnt bad considering he really strict pressed them Laughing

I had a fairly good day of eating, and due to training quite late, I was really fired up for the lifting.

Push press:

8x27.5kg (fixed barbell waiting for the lovely Ivanko powerbar to become free).
8x60kg
3x75kg
2x5x85kg - quite easy really.

Deadlifts:

5x100kg
3x140kg
3x170kg

At this point a fairly large guy came up to me and asked me how I was actually holding onto the bar without straps. I explained to him that I was training for strongman so I train my grip a bit. We then had a little discussion about this, and he concluded that he must try grip training, and indeed deadlifting without straps (which he had never attempted). Really nice guy. I proceeded to show off a bit with pulling the first rep with 190kg double overhand and then the 1st 2reps on the second set DO too.

2x5x190kg - fairly easy as well. I was supposed to do 2x5x195 but wanted to make them without it being super tough. I suppose I should have done 195 but no matter.

Powercleans:

5x60kg
3x80kg
2x5x95kg - quite tough. Always will be after deads but I wasnt going to fail.

Two guys were waiting for the bar for benching after the power cleans. One of the guys said he was very impressed with the weight lifted. Its funny how these non standard exercises impress everyone, even when not that much weight it used! Laughing

Seeing as they were nice guys and I had time to kill, I did some close grip benching with them:

8x60kg
8x80kg
5x100kg - hard
8x90kg - easy, puzzling!

I then finished with static holds, mixed grip, with a bar with practically no knurling left on it:

120kg x 10sec
170kg x 20sec
200kg x 20sec x 2

f**king excellent session!

Had a great great session today!!!

Finally the squat curse has been broken!!! I have been stuck at 150kg squat for over a year now, which is frankly embaressing!

This is what I did today. The plan, according to my routine was 2x5x127.5kg. Now I already planned to up it to at least 130kg, but I then decided to push it 135kg.

6x60kg
5x90kg
3x120kg
5x135kg - this was easy so I decided to max out.
1x145kg - misgrooved but still easy
1x155kg - 5kg pb, fairly easy
1x160kg - 10kg pb, really hard, so I think that this is about my max for the moment.

So so happy to make this. For the first time in ages I actually feel proud of my squat!

Bench:

8x60kg
5x90kg
4x105kg
2x5x116kg - pretty easy and a rep pb!

Bent over rows:

6x60kg
6x90kg
2x8x110kg - hard, due to back being wiped from squats

Thick bar 4inch ROM deadlift rack lockouts:

75kg x 10sec DO
115kg x 5sec mixed from now on
155kg x 5sec
195kg x 5sec
225kg x 3sec
255kg x 3sec
285kg x 3sec, 10kg pb, tore a minor callous a bit so plastered it up and...
300kg x 3sec. Easy, but had to call it a day due to callous tear.

Super sweet session!!

Thanks Rob!!

Had a very short session today. Basically because I am working this weekend, I decided to split my strongman sessions over two days.

So all I did today was log press. Now this was actually trickier than usual due to the fact that by the time we got our asses in to gear is was getting dark. Darkness is hard to lift in due to balance being all off, and the high wind didn't help either.

8x40kg with the wee log
5x65kg with the big 'un
2x80kg
1x95kg, fast

1x102.5kg - 2.5kg pb. Now this wasn't a very clean rep. It actually landed on my head, and I pressed it for a second time to get an easy lockout. I would have prefered to make it cleanly but f**k it, it's strongman! I maybe would have made it cleanly in the light with no wind

1x105, clean only. I just couldn't balance the log. It was really dark at this point and I didn't expect to make it.

2x90kg, still balance issues
6x65kg, for speed
5x65kg. Each rep was one clean and one press. Did the press as a continuation of the clean, so in effect completely strict. Hard!

That is all Grin

Had a good training session today, doing strongman out in the street. Had to train earlier this morning as I am going to work this afternoon. This is not good for my back, that was sore to start, until I got going.

First event was yoke. I have decided to switch to high bar position yoke walks as I have had trouble keeping the bar on my back. This is slightly harder at the moment, but will soon get easier.

40m x 52kg
20m x 132kg
20m x 192kg
2x20m x 232kg - first run was slower, but the second run was fast. Ill take it to 252kg next time.

Medley - this consisted of 30m farmers walk with 70kg and one turn, carry a 63kg keg 15m and then push a medium sized car 20m. Some handbrake resistance was applied for the pushing.

First run was 52sec and the second run 42sec. Then some bugger parked in our way so that was that.

Car push - 3 runs of 20-30m with increased resistance. Good cardio!! Grin

I think I saw little Jonathan in the gym today mate, looked very much like you.

Was giving his shoulders a good bashing, including some horizontal presses on the hammer strength row machine!
