I'm 2 weeks from surgery now and im trying to research what vitamins/supps i should take to recover quickest.

Heres some stuff i have,
zinc, magnesium, multi vit, msm, chondroitin, glucosamine, flaxseed oil, omega 3 oil, vit C, calcium +D, Vit E.
Vit c gets mixed answers. msm/chondroitin/glucosamine, vit e, oils, and the multi vit also seem to be a no no until after. Not sure about extra aminos before, but i know its good after.

Anyone got any better info? Doc didnt say anything, but he will have a bog standard reply im sure.

I don't see how ANY supplements would help recovery. Surely the main factors in recovery are down to the speed of your metabolism, protein synthesis/turnover and minimisation of scar tissue and loss of mobility? Confused

I actually have vit B complex, i'll add that in as well. But with the vit e, dont they say not to take it because it thins blood? Did you take any days off supps before or after surgery?

The zinc i have is holland and barrett, chelated zinc 25mg. Cheap stuff

relaxation would probably be a good idea

Plenty of time for that after. I was planning to lift heavy up until the day. Keep hormones high. Well, maybe a day off to be safe.

What's the general school of thought about supplemental zinc just for getting massive? Does anyone think it actually does anything or is it just another thing that works in theory but dosnt actually make any difference?

Sorry for going off topic slightly

Does it even work in theory?

Best supp theory is to buy the most expensive supps possible and bask in the placebo effect Grin

Jack, try some new things for a while and see what happens. Either your lifts will go up, or you'll just lose a few quid. I heard Tom Martin take zinc, so it must work.

I wouldn't go without Zinc, Magnesium, cod oil and a multi vit, minimum. But i'm always dieting, because i don't know if im doing weightlifting or athletics, so i need to supplement because the lack of real food.

It will thin the blood a tiny bit but take iron n ur blood viscosity should be high enought for the blood to thin to a point that it will aid recovery n help prevent to much clotting in the area there for better circulation n less scar tissue. Again I have never studied or researched this so feel free to lol

What about growth hormone lol

Mt current reading is into Vit d and how it can aid with the regeneration. More to do with my ailments.

But Slimsim might have a very good point in that your body will dictate how you recover!!
But IMO I think if you increasing the mineral and vitamin to what you normally take then it could well help.

In an ideal world....

Cheers Trav, i'll read into the iron as i just bought some. Like everything in nutrition, so many contradictions with what to take before.

Stella and Marlborough lights, fixes everything! I recommend 6 cans between 8am and 1 pm then 2 cans per hour till midnight. Stick to that for a fortnight and you'll soon be fixed up
