I went to watch some of the Scottish indoor rowing champs yesterday

Some incredible athletes, some, less so.

My mate did his 4rth ever 2k in 6:26, and came 7th in the opens

I set off at a 8.30 pace and sprinted from 300m which was far too early, 150 fine 50m dead then the last 100 so so. Will try the same then sprint a bit later.

Sub 8 will go next time

Did my first 2 k row for years today. Fifth row I've doe in about 8 years. Was pleased to get 7:53 and very surprised. I set off too quickly, first 500m was 1:46 and last 500m was 2:06. I don't want to do more than 4x 20 mins sessions per week cos it'll detract from my other cardio. I'd ultimately like to get back to sub 7:30. Do any of you rowing Gods have any suggestions Please ? Ps times are at max resistance on concept two, is this the normal setting when going for these times ?

hi mate !

im deffo not an expert , but i wouldnt go max resistance ...mabie number 4/5/6 ...

i really dont like the long training sessions , im a no frills guy ..

6 x 500m - 2 min rest - try and get all 6 reps the same time
2 x 1000m - 2 min rest - replicate 2k time but with a little 2 min rest
2 x 2000m - 4 min rest - first rep 2k (pb time) + 15seconds ..2nd rep 2k + 30 seconds

i also do a single 5k row , but it can get boring as hell ...

You cheating bas***d!!
What are you doing on the 2k chart at 7.24 then. Come on, explain yourself!!

I've also always done all my rowing with the full resistance on. I'm intrigued by Boars suggestion of trying it on 4/5/6 tops. I always felt like I had to row like the clappers at lower resistance. I've no access to any C2's to even try it again Unhappy

He did say he had done under 7:30 before. Grin

With the damper setting the idea is too bring it to a similar drag that you would feel in a boat - boats are very light. One thing about rowing like the clappers - the ratio of drive to recovery should be 1:2, so take it slow forwards and fast on the drive.

I blame my height. I'm only 5'6"-5'7" with short legs. Unhappy Unhappy I used to find the drive from my legs was so short that there was no time to generate any power with anything less than full resistance

I too am only 5 foot 7.... I wouldn't even entertain the idea of doing 2k on number 10!

Mabie start with the 6 x 500 at a time of 1:55.... and work down a little every week...as for the 2 x 1000, mabie 1:55 again...giving you 3:50 per 1000m and just work on beating it by a little every week
