But Jack says he always struggles with squat and he's only doing it once a week... surely makes sense to do it more in that case?

Not necessarily. Jack is still young. Brute strength matures over time. I'd say there's no need to increase his work load. He's already hurt his back. Patience!

My squat form goes out of the window if I'm not squatting 2-4 times a week. But it does mean you have reduce the intensity/volume of it.

I think it just depends, the key is to try something for a while, if it works stick with it, if not then try something else.

Injuries don't come solely from too high a workload/high frequency. A lot of the time, it's from imperfections in form. Form improves with high frequency -> less injuries. I've personally had less niggles / pains since increasing frequency.

Not necessarily!

You could just be performing a bad lift more often!

The more times you practice a lift during the week will surly benefit you more than just doing the moment once per week with a heavy weight

Like john said I have found I have a lot less niggles than the way I used to train

Are you on 531? Wendler says to do them before deadlifting.

No I'm not but that seems like a good idea.

So basically, putting together various bits of information, how does this sound:

Do them light before squats,
Alternate the deadlift day between normal deadliifts one week and heavier powercleans with speed deadlifts and light squats the other week. How about that?

Re the squats, there is no correct answer...I'm suprised there is even argumnets about it TBH

Some will gain well from squatting once a week, some from twice, some from crazy Smolov 4-6 times a week s**t.....

Note I said "not necessarily", which is a general answer!

The answer is... whatever works for the individual!
