They're not bad from a 5'4" perspective either!

I dont like pulls from height in comps , the higher the worse. The odd position and heavy loads acheivable combined with 'comp day do anything for the points 'form just make them an accident waiting to happen IMO.On a personal note they also put me at a disadvantage due to being relatively tall for a u90k competitor but I accept this is evened out by loading events etc so it's not a valid reason to argue against their inclusion in comps.

As a training tool I think they are great for 'overloading' the muscles and working through sticking points. As somone who has had back issues I try to use them with caution however.

Im of the opinion that we shouldnt be doing basic deadlift from floor, pretty boring in my opinion, either thick bar form 14-18 inch or silver dollar style, high pulls high weight, this however maybe because my 19 inch oull is nearly double my floor pull haha
On a serious not though I appreciate the arguement that it promotes injury, but if it was a standard thing then we would all train from height?? as everything else we do is picking heavy s**t up off the floor I think low bar pulls just smash you to bits

Funny, that's often how I describe you... Wink

18 inchers are an event and I think quite a good one, so you should be rotating them in where appropriate.

I agree with Traps about not being in the same position pulling from 18in etc than when pulling from the floor, but think that like Kev says, the increased lower back, hammie, upperback work etc can make all the difference.

I would make sure I was still pulling off the floor too.

I used to pull from a small height exclusively due to necessity but when I went back to off-the-floor I didn't really get great carryover as I was weak off of the floor. Probably good to mix in different heights, though, as long as you remember that you still need strength off the floor.

now that i'm on the comeback i think for me that doing deadlift from different heights from mid shin to lock out will be very important as i was always s**t at lock out and so i intend on making that are a strongpoint

I think its good to have a mixture of deads off the floor and from height in comps (not both in the same comp though!)

I also think that they probably are a good training tool for improving deadlift off the floor as a whole.

I do agree the positioning feels wierd. Ive only pulled from height prob 6 or 7 times ever, infact did what I think were 13" pulls last night. I do however find it alot harder to get my starting back posistion correct compared to when I pull from the floor.

My problem with the deadlift is the lockout I think so they should help me with my deadlift off the floor ultimately.
