Equipped or un equipped strongman?

I'm an unequipped strongman.

That's the ultimate approach to the ultimate sport Cool

i love both but i cant be doing with all the equipped stuff.

i think the only people who like equipped power lifting are power lifters who like equipment.

This info cropped up over the past few days....

btw - check this out - 600lb carryover from suits/wraps FTW

This guy apparently only has a raw bench around 200kg but benches 400kg+ in a single ply shirt!

Extreme examples, but it confirms to me that equipped numbers can be a very poor indicator of an individual's strength.

From what I can see doing powerlifting is a good introduction to the sport of strongman

s**t argument really though mate

you think running fast with farmers is a good indication of someones strength?

or pulling a truck?

I'm not so sure!

depends what you class as 'strength'

powerlifting and strongman are both great fun, it just a shame you have to dress like an extra from a bondage porn film to enjoy partaking in a bit of powerlifting.

Powerlifting is a strength sport. If people are getting wildly different aid from kit it detracts from the actual strength test.

Strongman is a stronger all round sport, powerlifitng is just 3 lifts. So in my opinion strongmans better

That's like arguing that strongman's s**t because some events favour really tall people, or some prioritise running fast over strength, or...

It's also worth noting that the people who get huge amounts out of kit are ones who've trained to minimise their weaknesses *in kit*, rather than their raw weakness. Doesn't mean they're not strong as f**k, and anybody who doubts it is welcome to come over, try on a shirt, and get stapled. It's like saying a pole-vaulter's s**t because he's not as good at the high jump as a high-jumper.

This thread's going nowhere, I suspect. Play nice, people, or it'll get locked real soon.

Powerlifting is usually quite boring to compete in, strongman is more fun.

To be pedantic, powerlifting tests absolute strength exclusively, whereas strongman uses a lot of strength endurance for running around and doing reps. So thereTongue
