Someone could be 105 just before competing but put on weight DURING THE COMPETITION.
The only solution is to constantly monitor their weight. Random weight checks throughout the competition. Otherwise it's not a U105 comp.

Could do it like jockeys and weigh them before and after.

aye, true but tre unlikily unless their hardly working hard and decide to have a massive feed and lots of liquid.

imo if someone is going to call themselves 105/90 champion of the britain/uk/england etc then they should be 105 when competeting.

all in all, i love a good moan.

I heard a rumor his scales are out by at least 3kg.

your rumour has no basis in reality

I also heard that if athletes are close to the limit he makes them strip off and weigh in naked 'just to be sure'.

Personally I'd rather see athletes prove they can make the weight and belong in the comp, but then give them some time to feel good when competing. Injuries in other sports occur more often when dehydrated - pulls and cramps come to mind. Maybe muscle tears come into this category too.

One argument I can see against weighing in the day before is the lack of money in strongman. It's one thing to show up at a venue the day before when the promoter is paying for a hotel and travel, it's another if it forces someone to shell out extra for a level playing field. Tough call in my opinion, depends on the size and location of the comp. Less of a big deal in Finland like Joni says with the later start time.

I'm surprised at the depth of feeling against early weigh-ins here, especially from the bigger lads. You could maybe understand it from a smaller 105 competitor who feels hard done by.

The problem as I see it with day before weigh ins, is that it will screw over the "genuine" 105 guys. The guys who have a crazy amount of muscle on a relatively small frame, and are pretty well conditioned, at 105 or just below, guys like Clegg I'd imagine. Because guys like that are not going to be able to get to compete at a high level open comp. So what you are doing, is opening up the 105 comp, to the guys sitting around 115-120, who could compete at the open level, and closing it off to the guys who the weight class was started for!

Cutting to make comp weight is gay.

The common arguement is one of safety. If people do a big cut and weigh-in on the morning then they will be dehydrated while competing.

I'd argue that it's actually the other way around and short weigh =in times are safer.

Because there is a limit to how quickly you can replace lost fluids and dehydration very quickly decreases strength, lifters who compete with just say 2 hour weigh-ins attempt to loose a lot less weight and are therefore not tempted by the more extreme and dangerous weight loss options.

Failing to cut and being beaten by the heavier guy (particularly if you could have won the lighter class) is even more gay!

if dehydrating was easy, everyone will be doing it.

important point, and ads a dimension of skill to the game.

LOVE IT!

i think the biggest argument to implement the day before weigh ins is that these debates which go around circles will stop Grin

personally it is not matter of if they should be implemented, rather when and in which comps.

god I hate that, I thought it was about lifting crazy ass weights, not about dehydration!

Also, of coarse its gonna happen, someone just sort it out!
AvatarJoni
what is there for you to hate though, i thought you are solidly in the opens?

not like 105s come to say similar s**t about opens...

well, with the advent of day before weigh ins, my new found love of the prowler, and the fact that I got owned at an open comp, the 105s are starting to look alot more appealling

doesn't mean I think its right though, haha
