Member 171, 2462 posts SQ 272.5, BP 140, DL 245657.5 kgs @ 80.2kgs Eq | So I have finally gotten round to creating a new journal just in time for my first comp of 2010 - the BPC/GPC Northern and Midlands Qualifier. Training has been a mixed bag so far this year so I am going into this competition treating it as a qualifier, so I will take something around my totals of last year (480~ at the Welsh-512 at the Brits -520 at the Worlds). My best comp lifts are: Squat: 222.5kg Bench: 85kg raw, 90kg shirted Deadlift: 210kg All at 75kg bw in the BPC. Other than this qualifier and the Brits im thinking the second half of the year will be dedicated to strength gains and no comps although I might do a comp raw for fun at the end of the year, see how things work out. Here is me at the Brits last year: Hopefully I will be back there this year hitting a much bigger total! | ||

No shirt for me this comp Boarski. Going raw on shirt and deadlift. Im still hopeful of beating my 90kg bench that I did in a shirt. | ||

A bit more cutting to do then MAX sleep followed by MAX travel and weigh in before eating and drinking PBs and some more sleep. Followed by lifting some god damn weights! | ||

Getting to the comp was a total nightmare! Ended up needing 5 trains to get from Leeds to Mansfield, about 50 miles! Got there eventually, weighed in and got to eating and drinking. Squat: Warm ups: 60kg 100kg 120kg Briefs and knee wraps on 140kg 160kg 180kg Squat opener: 200kg - Good lift Finally got an opening squat in good! This weight was ligth for me, considering I opened at 210kg at the worlds but squatting had not being going great in training, not helped by my knee so I took a light opener and got it. Second squat: 212.5kg - Good lift This lift felt a bit heavy at the top but I squatted it no problem. After this I was ready to eye up another 12.5kg jump for a pb. Third squat: 225kg - Lift Failed Failed this squat inches from lock-out, im not sure what happened. I must have been literally inches from lock-out. I assume I fell forward due to dropping my knees forward, something I really need to sort out. 225kg would have been 3x bw and a pb but not today, I feel this and more is in the bag for the summer! I was a bit annoyed about my final squat but considering how badly it has been going in training I was really happy to get two squats in and only just miss out on a small pb. No shirt on bench this time I was hoping to beat my raw pb of 85kg and possible overtake my shirted pb of 90kg. Bench: Warm ups: 50kg 60kg 70kg 75kg 80kg First lift: 85kg - good lift Nice and easy opener. Considering I got this weight gifted to me at the Brits last year I was happy with how easy it felt. Second lift: 90kg - Failed Dont know how I missed this. I was quite annoyed, barely got it off my chest. I think I wasnt aggresive enough, something to learn from. Third lift: 90kg - good lift Got it in good this time, so easily it made me missing it the lift before look really daft. Plenty left to build on this before I go back to a shirt. I was feeling good at this stage with a decent sub-total. I always look forward to deadlifting and I was looking to continue my record of hitting a pb in the deadlift in every comp I have done. Deadlift: Warm ups: 60kg 100kg 120kg 140kg 160kg 180kg First lift: 195kg - good lift Another easy opener and I had a total in which always feels good. Second lift: 205kg - good lift Another nice deadlift. A bit tougher but I knew I was on for a pb. Considering I got this turned down for a hitch at the qualifier last year I was happy to smash it here. Third lift: 212.5kg - good lift This was tougher but it was going to go all day long. I am now hunting 500lbs this year. So a 515kg total. 5kg down on the worlds but still my second biggest all time total. I went 7 for 9 which felt good and I know if I keep getting the lifts in my total will soon grow. Im now awaitig my invite for the Brits which I should get, I didnt hit the qualifying total but considering I totalled more than 40kg more than last years qualifier then I should be sound. Im not setting any crack pipe goals for the Brits just yet but some more pbs and a big total pb is on the cards for me I think. Back to training for now though! | ||

Monday 12th April @ The Sugden: Military Press: 30kg x 5 40kg x 5 50kg x 3 55kg x 1 (was hoping for more) 50kg x 3 50kg x 3 Bench: 40kg x 5 50kg x 5 60kg x 5 62.5kg x 5 62.5kg x 5 62.5kg x 5 62.5kg x 5 62.5kg x 5 Plus some lat pull downs and some bodyweight stuff Bench is continuing well, this felt light and solid which is good. OH was annoying, 50kg for 3 reps feels easy but 55kg I could get for 1 rep and couldnt manage another. My technique obviously sucks but I should be able to throw more weight than that overhead. I will start working more assistance work back into my workout as I regain strength. | ||
