Dont knock it T, I was impressed anyway. And less of this crab business, I will put up with it at the gym but lets leave it there. Tongue And I will be in for some squats and deadlifts yeah.
Cheers andy and Beard. Happy
Finally got round to uploading my 190kg deadlift from last week.
Can someone embed this for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1y6smxuT5M
Its being all screwy for me for some reason.

I think your deadlift will rise really quick as those reps were very speedy. My 5 rep max reps are slower than those! good work keep it up

Cheers, deadlift felt awesome on Wednesday. Every set got faster. 200kg next week which will be my opener at the Brits, hopefully will fly up just as nicely. Happy

Friday 2nd July @ Fitness First, Leeds:

Box squats:
Suit on, rolled down
60kg x 5
100kg x 5
Suit rolled up
140kg x 3
170kg x 2
170kg x 2
170kg x 2
170kg x 2
170kg x 2

Bench:
50kg x 5
60kg x 5
70kg x 3
80kg x 3
80kg x 3
80kg x 3

Plus assistance work and cardio (Eek )

The box I used was just below parallel, definately higher than what I was using in Manchester so I upped the weight and nailed some sets with 170kg which felt good. Kept the bench reasonable, saving that for Monday which will probably be my last heavy bench.

Good week of training, one more week of training to go before the Brits!

Hey Martin, training is going very well for me, possibly my best comp build up ever so im feeling confident. I wont be beating my brother this comp unless something goes horribly wrong for him so I hope I dont! His current total pb is 550kg which im gunning for if I go 9 for 9.

Cheers T, my squat style isnt popular amongst the lads but once im in canvas (in the far future) I will squat as slow as them!

Monday 5th July @ Ralls Gym, Leeds:

60kg x 5
70kg x 5
80kg x 3
90kg x 1
100kg x 1
105kg x f

Dissapointed with my 105kg set, bottled it when I got close to the chest. However the 100kg set felt good so that bodes well for me finally nailing 100kg in comp.

Tuesday 6th July @ Whitworth Hall, University of Manchester:

Cardio of walking down to collect my degree certificate and then back to my seat Tongue

Wednesday 7th July @ Ralls Gym, Leeds

Squat:
100kg x 5
130kg x 5
160kg x 3
180kg x 2
200kg x 1
210kg x 1

Deadlift:
70kg x 5
125kg x 3
145kg x 2
165kg x 2
185kg x 1
200kg x 1

Great session, couldnt have gone better. Really strong squats, 210kg felt light as a feather then solid deadlifts. Top sets will be my openers at the Brits. Two more light sessions left then its competition time! I cant wait.

Cheers guys. Training is all wrapped up now and feeling good. Happy

I compete in the BPC, and before Boar makes his cheeky inferences Tongue I compete BPC because thats where all the powerlifters I know compete. Happy Even though im drug free and the only kit I wear is an IPF legal squat suit and knee wraps lol.

Final training sessions before the Brits!

Saturday 10th July @ Ralls Gym, Leeds:

High box squats:
Suit on, straps down
60kg x 5
100kg x 5
140kg x 2
140kg x 2
140kg x 2
140kg x 2
140kg x 2

Nice light final squat, felt good and fast.

Monday 12th July @ Ralls Gym, Leeds:

Bench:
60kg x 5
70kg x 3
80kg x 3 - final rep paused
90kg x 1 - with a pause

Some stupidly light military press and some lat pull downs

Worked up to my opener. Felt good and now its just a waiting game till Sunday! Happy

Combined British Championships 2010
18th July

Having weighed in comfortably at 80.2kg I spent Saturday relaxing, eating and watching Inception at the cinema in Harrow. I woke up on Sunday morning (at 6.30am!) feeling good. Arrived at the venue in good time and helped my brother with his squat warm ups as he was in the first flight.

Squat Warmups:
Suit on, rolled down
60kg x 5
100kg x 5
Suit rolled up
140kg x 3
Knee wraps on
170kg x 2
Suit Straps up
190kg x 1

Warmups felt good. My brother squatted 235kg on his 3rd lift so that gave me something to aim for. I was ready for my 210kg opener, a weight I have done before in competition and did comfortably in the gym.

Squat opener - 210kg: Good lift
Smoked this out of the water and unlike so many other meets I got a good first squat in which made me feel so much better mentally. I was ready for a PB attempt on my 2nd lift.

Second squat - 225kg: Good lift 2.5kg PB
Having only just failed this at the qualifier I was feeling confident of getting this one and I did. It felt comfortable and I was ready to really push it on the third.

Third Squat - 240kg: Good lift 15kg PB
Having seen my brother set the standard at 235kg I knew I wanted to beat him on squat like last year. This felt ok on the back but this squat was tough as. I lost it slightly on the way down, my knees came in and for a split second I thought I wouldnt come back up but suddenly something kicked in and I drove it upwards with all I had. I racked it and saw the 3 lights. This was a huge PB for me and was a reward for session after session of hard work for a year to finally achieve another decent squat.

After this it was time for bench and I was feeling awesome after my squat.

Bench warmups:
40kg x 5
50kg x 5
60kg x 5
70kg x 2 - 2nd rep paused
80kg x 1 - with pause

Felt good going into bench and I was confident of finally getting 3 benches in especially with no worries about touching etc. that comes with wearing a shirt.

Opening bench - 90kg: Good lift
Got this in nicely. This was equal to a PB but I came hoping for much more than 90kg.

Second bench - 95kg: No lift
Stupid fail this. Bottled it really. Having nailed this weight for reps in the gym and having singled higher I was really hoping for better but it wasnt to be. I had to get my head back into it and nail it on my third.

Third bench - 95kg: Good lift 5kg pb
Having not gone at this weight aggresive enough on my second lift I was determined to get it right this time and I did. It was a shame that I missed out on a shot at 100kg but I came for a new pb total and in the scheme of it that would have only gained me 5kg whereas my squat gained me 20kg.

With a sub-total of 335kg I knew getting my opening deadlift would give me a pb total and that filled me with confidence going into my favourite bit of the meet, the deadlift.

Deadlift warm-ups:
60kg x 5
100kg x 5
120kg x 3
140kg x 2
160kg x 1
180kg x 1

Warmups didnt feel amazing but I was still confident of hitting a pb.

Opening deadlift - 200kg: Good lift
Having deadlifted 200kg in my 4 previous comps and having smoked it in the gym I was confident of this being a nice easy opener and thats exactly what it was. Happy This gave me a pb total meaning I had two lifts left to add some kgs to it.

Second deadlift - 210kg: Good lift
A good lift, not quite as fast as I would have wanted since I was planning to jump to 220kg next but I still felt like I had plenty in the tank and I was gunning for another pb.

Third deadlift - 220kg: Good lift 7.5kg pb
My brothers total of 550kg meant that a 220kg deadlift would mean I beat him for the first time. It would also be a 7.5kg pb on deadlift. I knew it would be tough but I knew if I gave it everything it should go. I got psyched up, took a big hit of smelling salts and went to the bar. I started to pull and it felt heavy but once it got near the knee I knew it was going up. I kept pulling and got the down command. After getting the three whites I let let out a massive cheer and went to celebrate with my brother. I was over the moon.

After a great build-up I knew I had the potential for a great comp and everything came together for a big 555kg total. Thats 45kg up on the qualifier and an all-time pb by more than 30kg. I am so happy with my performance, I have lived up to my potential and it feels good.

Thanks to everyone I have trained with in Manchester and Leeds especially Smallsy, Ant the Machine, Baz and Jake at the Sugden, you were my go to guys and spotted me and helped me out countless times.

Not sure when my next comp will so I have a long stretch of training ahead of me to really pack on some muscle and nail some pbs and get ready for shifting some more weight. A return to the bench shirt might happen at some point, as might a new squat suit but mostly im looking for more raw strength gains and technique improvements. Bring it on!
